I wouldn't necessarily read too much into that.

Do you guys believe it’s easier or harder to keep internal organization news a secret as compared to external organizational news?

Can you be a little more detailed? Like is it easy for the Magic org to keep all their moves a secret? Well yeah.. if your boss tells you to.keepnit quiet you better do it unless you wanma get fired/ no future business/ lawsuit... esp if its in your contract

Guess where I’m going is based on our internal assistant coaches who were supposedly being interviewed. We haven’t heard a single word about them if they did or didn’t. Yet there is all this talk about the other coaches being in the lead. From my point of view internal news usually gets blasted even if it supposed to stay hush hush.

Thats true... but guess what's the consequences if they do that? Not only would they be burning bridges with our organization, it shows to other organizations whether nba, ncaa, euro as well as head coaches who.might want to take them as assistants that you can't be trusted or unprofessional at the least.

I must have missed where he said they had been interviewed. Or maybe I misread it to begin with. Was there any follow up on them at all?

In addition to Unseld, candidates who have had at least one interview with the Magic include Phoenix Suns assistant coach Willie Green, San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon and Magic assistant coaches Tyrone Corbin, Pat Delany and Steve Hetzel.

The main difference is you don't have to request permission to interview coaches that you already have under contract or aren't under contract at all. So the Magic were able to interview all three guys from Clifford's bench - Corbin, Delany and Hetzel - without any fuss in the media.

It's the same reason why we didn't hear if they interviewed Terry Stotts or not. He isn't under contract with any NBA team, so the Magic could interview him privately.

The weird one is Atkinson. There has been chatter out there connecting the Magic and Atkinson since pretty much the day Orlando parted ways with Clifford. But no public interview request and presumably no interview. And not just the Magic, it doesn't appear Atkinson interviewed with any of the seven openings.

Ya, there's no point in burning bridges. I'd assume they all understand what's at stake with a job like that. Dozens of men/women want a head coaching job in the NBA (or, like Rookie said, NCAA, Europe, etc.).

Steve Clifford ended up back at an organization he was once was an assistant coach for at one point. Wes Unsled Jr. may end up back at an organization where he once was an assistant coach as well. There's no point in burning bridges.

If we sign Ham and keep Bacon, we'll have to nickname the Amway, The Pig Pen.

I can already hear Jeff Turner calling it that. And see him vigorously try to have us fans catch on to it

Exactly. Look at it in a real world situation: Would you apply for a job somewhere that's notorious for firing its employees?

I wouldn't unless I was desperate. Stability is so important

Would you take the job if it gave you a couple million dollars and even if it didn't work out, you could still likely go and earn six figures elsewhere? I'm sure candidates want some guarantee that they'll be given time due to our young roster, but a HC job in the NBA pays enough that even if they're fired, they can sit around for the rest of their life if they want.

Sometimes you only get 1 shot at a HC job- want to use it on our team? There's no guarantees you'll be an assistant afterwards once you are canned either. You'll be rich, sure, but that's not what we are talking about. We are discussing why someone would pass on a job that offers zero stability

For some millions of dollars is stability. Also, unless there is something truly problematic, they will have future coaching opps. Jacque Vaughn might get a great job now. If we hire somebody in their 40s or 50s and they are canned after 2-3 years, this won't be their only stop.

This pretty much confirms to me that we will be hiring one of Mohsley or Unseld Jr. Which is fine but I was really hoping for Atkinson.
