I feel bad for Morata honestly. That’s just brutal.

Tons of possession means nothing if you dont create chances. I'm having trouble remembering most of Spain's best chances on goal outside of the Morata goal. Olmo had a good chance in the first half but the shot was straight at Donnarumma. In my opinion Italy looked more dangerous tonight except towards the end when it looked like they had no legs underneath them which I can understand.

I think Italy vs Denmark would be a very good final. It's too bad that I'll miss it because of work :noway:

Bad game for Italy tonight, Spain dominated us.

Maybe Italy wasnt great but what exactly did Spain do tonight? 70% possession and only 1 more shot on goal than Italy. Not exactly a dominate performance.

Emiliano Martinez with the solid goalkeeping in the penalty shootouts.

That was waaaay too easy though

Italy defense is horrible

Really? They've only let in 3 goals in how many years? They've kept the Spanish pretty quiet too.

Italy is just hanging on , Spain has dominated this game

Italy is easily hanging on. Spain has dominated possession without putting many shots on target.

The more attacking team didn't win. The better defensive team won.

Tactically, this was always Italy's game to lose. It indeed would've been over in regulation had it not been for Mancini's mistake.

Italy had been squeezing the field by crunching their defense up against the midfield line and pressuring the ball just inside their own half. Smart. Forces the aerial game where Italy had the clear upper hand. Chiesa scores a beauty with 30 minutes to go and that's when Mancini made his mistake: he went for Spain's jugular. He ordered pressure further downfield and let the midfield storm the Spanish wings. Mistake. Astonishingly he didn't pull back even after Spain's goal.

Happy for Chiellini and co. Should be noted that 18 year old Pedri was the most gifted player on the pitch. There's a name we'll be hearing a lot of for the next 15-20 years.

Italy were pushing up too high defensively as they just didn't have the defensive speed to stop attackers getting behind them. The Italians are old at the back and they got more and more tired. The Spanish one touch football and passing picked them apart too many times. Mancini had to change things, his problem was that his bench players were not as good especially his attackers. Pedri did look a class above though didn't he?

If England make the final they need to play their young fast attackers and torment the skilled but old Italian defenders.

Spot on HIF, particularly about Italy's bench pieces.

Not sure about England or Denmark going with speed early on against them. Italy showed against Spain that they are still exceptional at shrinking the playing field by moving their defensive line up against their midfield line. Their experience hedged the speed disadvantage for long enough. I'd probably try to keep it tight, wear them down, and go with speedy subs at the 55-60 minute mark.

That was the most gutless Spanish performance I can remember in a long time. Enrique didn't set his team up to win the game, he prepared the game to keep the ball away from Italy.

Essentially 6 Spanish midfielders putting together 800 passes to do what? **** all.

Spanish fans deserve more than merely taking solace from "ole" football over 60 minutes until Italy pinched them on the counter (predictably) and then Enrique immediately goes to his bench to put in Morata who should have started the game from the beginning.

To make Tika Taka work you need generational superstars like Iniesta, Xavi and Silva. Players who can keep the ball but also know how to time runs and finish plays.
