Congratulations PHX Suns Fans (coming from an NYK fan)

Post#1 » by NYK-Mentality85 » Thu Jul 1, 2021 7:38 am

Well deserved NBA Finals appearance.

I'm 36 years of age.

I remember back in 1992-1993 like it were yesterday. I was only 7-8 years old.

Chicago Bulls vs. PHX Suns. NBA Finals.

I hated (feared) MJ23 so bad to the point I've still to this day never owned a pair of Jordans. Never have. Never will; I wanted you guys to beat Chicago so damn bad yo!

This. Is. Your time. Cherish. Every. Moment. Of. It. It doesn't happen often.

As a kid I absolutely loved your flashy Jerseys used to have myself a Phoenix Suns hat just because I thought it looked fresh. as a kid from the S. Side of Queens my friends used to say my PHX hat was "hot son" or "OD" or "bananas". The girlies used to want to wear it in school too (because it was different and Purple. And colorful lol.

Charles Barkley. Kevin Johnson. Cedric Ceballos I remember the most and y'all had some fire white boys too led by Dan Majerle, Danny Ainge and Tom Chambers (those 6 are the only players I can remember all these years later).

Fast forward to 2021 and you guys have an awesome veteran CP3 and some firepower homegrown drafted kids I really like in Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton and Mikal Bridges.

Which gives me hope for one day Immanuel Quickley, R.J Barrett, Julius Randle, Obi Toppin and Mitchell Robinson to pull a PHX Suns and return to the Finals.

PHX Suns vs. Milwaukee Bucks.

I'll enjoy as the battle of two smaller market underdog Franchises (so refreshing to not see San Antonio, Golden State, LeBron, K.D again etc).

PHX Suns vs. ATL Hawks?

I hope you guys beat the dog crap out of them I literally can not stand Trae Young as I once hated Reggie Miller. Everytime I see his stupid little face on my big screen I want to spit at him. Something about him? Idk. Gets under my skin.

Just wanted to take the time to congratulate you longtime suffering PHX fans 1992-1993? It's been a longtime coming and you PHX Suns faithful (I hate this word but) DESERVE THIS!

PS: Kawhi Leonard or not, LAC wasn't beating you guys (2 seed vs 6 seed, for a reason).

Your Suns are.... BACK!!!!

Congrats from a Rubio fan as well. I really enjoyed last season and knew there was something really good cooking in PHX, but couldn't be mad that they traded him for Chris Paul, who's just one of the greatest PGs in history. I've been rooting for you guys from afar and hope you make it out of the finals with your first trophy. Best of luck.

The Suns were my favorite team in the Nash era.

You guys had years of back luck.

2005 - missing Joe Johnson in the WCF.
2006 - Amare being hurt and still reaching the WCF
2007 - Amare and Diaw game 5 suspensions
2010 - Kobe airball and Artest's lucky game winner to go up 3-2.

You guys should've won 1 in that era so I'm happy you finally got some well deserved luck. Too bad Nash couldn't get such luck during his time.

I’d also like to congratulate Suns fans on beating my team and making the Finals.

As much as I hated playing against CP3 this series, he made our franchise relevant when all it’s ever known was the gutter. He closed the deal yesterday and I wish him the best! Hope he brings you guys a title and gets a ring, he deserves it.

It's going to become...

PHX Suns vs. Milwaukee Bucks.

Two teams who haven't won ABA/NBA championships since the early 1970's.

Battle of the underdogs.

I bet it'll become the highest TV rated Finals in NBA history too.

Because who doesn't like Underdogs like Rocky (Suns) vs. Karate Kid (Bucks)

???

What I love the most is if Bucks/Suns are in the Finals, it will be the 1st title for either franchise which is always a good thing. Hawks as well you could include in that conversation since they haven't won since moving to Atlanta in 1958.

No Celtics or Laker to add another to their 17 titles *yawn*

If the next 30 years were without Lakers, Celtics, Spurs or Bulls it would still not make up for their 45 combined rings. I'll just take a year at a time and pray those teams miss out again.

Bucks won a title with Kareem (Lew Alcindor) and Oscar in 71.

Hawks won one in 58, though they were the St Louis Hawks. In my reading about them, I came across this:

In 1956, the St. Louis Hawks drafted legendary Bill Russell in the first round (#2 pick). They immediately traded Russell to the Boston Celtics for Cliff Hagan and Ed Macauley, both Hall of Fame members.

Actually I hadn't noticed before pasting that they were both HoF guys, thinking they were no namers, but I haven't ever heard of them.

The Bucks won that championship because they won the coin flip against the Suns to get Kareem before both of their inaugural seasons 51 years ago. Pretty much the start of the 'so close' suns franchise luck.

For me this is the Reverse the Coin Flip Curse series. It started with the Suns finally getting their first number one pick in franchise history after losing the 68 coin flip. They use it to pick a center who has helped immensely to a finals berth.
The Bucks in 71 also added veteran HOF guard Oscar Robertson who got his first championship. LIke the Suns adding CP3 this year.

It's gonna be fun to watch.

I remember the Knicks made it to the Finals the year after we did, and played against the Rockets who knocked us out in 93-94. Maybe history repeats itself next year?

Thanks to all non-Suns fans in this thread. We're one of those fanbases that felt like it was never going to be us, so if that's you too, it absolutely can happen haha.

Job obviously isn't done, but feels good just getting this far since the WCF has been our ceiling since 1993.

Congrats from Kokoskov fan as well. I remember being a small part of this community, during Ayton's rookie season, and I am glad you are hopefully achieving the ultimate goal, probably sooner than expected. It's interesting seeing in hindsight how all the calculations, trade and signing guesses turned out eventually

Thanks, nice to see you around!

Any insight about Micic? Do you think that he will end his new contract with Fenerbahçe?

I would love to watch him in the NBA.

NYK-Mentality85 "Milwaukee isn't injured and absolutely depleted by injuries, now are they?

Denver was without their star starting PG in Jamal Murray throughout the entire series.

And  and Clippers were without their superstar Kawhi Leonard during every single game and Paul George still took you guys 7 games. 0.00% chance Clippers lose to the Suns with Kawhi Leonard.

Injuries happen. I'm a Knicks fan. I don't have a dog in this race. I couldn't care less who wins or loses. But I'm not going to pretend as if PHX didn't get lucky not having to play a Denver team with their starting star @ PG and I'm not going to pretend that PHX wasn't absolutely blessed to avoid Kawhi Leonard.

You guys went 1-2 vs Denver with Murray as their PG (he destroyed you guys) and also went 1-2 vs LAC with Kawhi Leonard (he destroyed you guys too).

Enjoy your finals run but don't act like your road wasn't easy.

Series will be 2-2 heading back to PHX"

In his original post " PS: Kawhi Leonard or not, LAC wasn't beating you guys"

Contradictions after contradictions he was never rooting for our team in the first place. It was all a ruse to deceive us while posting hot nonstop garbage on GB.

Not really an insight... I expect him to play 1 season with fener, then go to NBA if OKC stop tanking season after next. He'll come only if he gets meaningful minutes in competitive games, and he would be a great backup pointguard, probably cheap too. Or OKC trade him to such a team

A couple knicks fans get honorary rings this summer. Shout out 3toheadmelo, he has been an ayton supporter since the start. More than many suns fans.

Return to Phoenix Suns
