Great hire. I was worried we wouldn’t be able to get a quality developmental lead assistant coach after Orlando snatched up Mosley.

I’ll be honest…I didn’t know Vanterpool existed before I saw the news on Twitter lol.

I don’t know if he’s good or bad. Even though neither POR nor MIN defenses have been good, assistant coaches can only work with the players they’ve been given. We all know the defensive reputations of the players in Portland and Minny, so I won’t hold him accountable too much for their lackluster team defenses. He gets a clean slate with me.

But overall, I honestly wonder how much of an impact he’ll have.

Obviously, nothing was going to happen to Nash, but I really wanted (and still want) MDA gone. I have no confirmations and only my personal hunches, but I honestly believe that MDA has Nash’s ear and is largely responsible for much of the terrible offensive execution and unimaginative lineups we saw during the playoffs that had us with a 6-man rotation and one superstar play 48mpg despite coming off an Achilles tear & surgery and another superstar logging massive minutes while still nursing a grade 2 hamstring strain.

IMO, Nash will be MDA’s ventriloquist until he’s gone, which will probably mean that everyone else’s input and opinions will hold less weight.

I hope they prove me wrong, but both the lead up to the playoffs as well as the actual postseason itself have left me with a sour taste and a pessimistic attitude.

I want to be proven wrong but after glaring personnel holes weren’t addressed by Marks last offseason and the obvious gulf in coaching quality compared with most top teams, I will remain pessimistic until I see improvements on the floor with my own eyes.

I agree with NYC. I didnt know who this person was before the tweet dropped.

And honestly, it could have been the offspring of phil jackson and popovich and it wouldnt matter. we had tons of great experienced coaches last year, and they made 0 impact and we were one of the worst in the league as far as positive coaching impact. couldnt inbound the ball, couldnt hold 2 possesion leads with under 24 seconds, couldnt adjust to guys going off, couldnt take advantage of opponent weaknesses

it was roll out a ball and hope our stars shined enough to overcome 0 coaching
