I can't wait for Stillwater's complete meltdown when Sexton gets traded to the Pacers and Garland makes the All Star team lol

more likely Sexton not only makes the All-Star team over Garland but looks damn good in the playoffs with Indiana.

I just don't see what the Pacers would offer. Their two best players are centers. Maybe Warren if the Cavs can line up an extension? Brogdon and their pick?

That wont happen the DG being an all star next season, but you are kind of right in a sense if they part with Sexton at all since that will completely blow my trust in this org up...I know Sexton has a lot of haters that prefer DG, but even if you prefer DG thinking the solution is to part with your top scorer is a good idea in a small market for the kind of meh return it would give them or worse using him to dump Love...its just sickening and the fact you are having fun with me about it makes me want to break things

I don't want to part with Sexton, I just want to make him a 6th man but he and his camp apparently would not accept that and are looking for a max contract

Good because that is probably what the Cavs hope can happen is keeping him for less than starting guard $ and when they let him test the market are banking he will probably get south of a max because that is how they see him... But the fact is the kid is far from done and has never stopped improving yet the hate just keeps on fueling him on and on. In some respects I wish they would trade him just so the fanbase that has misjudged his potential has to regret it for a long time.
BTW most guards putting up his totals get maxed or close to it, the only thing stopping them from doing that is trying to avoid having to give DG the same thing since he has not proven worth it yet

Don't mind keeping him at all, just nowhere close to the Max. You don't pay borderline All Star players All Star level money. That's what gets you into cap hell 2 years later.
I view Allen the same way. Would love to keep him, but I'm not throwing the Max at him just so he stays. Max level contracts are typically reserved for All Stars. Neither Sexton or Allen are one.

Thats fair, but as you know I would rather pay him than lose him and watch him destroy the league without us...but the worst case is that happens it doesnt work out and DG walks or whoever they draft in this one is a prima that demands a trade or pulls a KPJ
imo Sexton has been about as loyal to what they want from him even playing off ball etc which is as good as you can get and it is just stupid to not reward him unless somebody else steps up next season.

Not denying that at all, it's a pressure cooker right now. I just personally don't see a future of the Cavs with both DG/Sexton on the same team.
You either sign Sexton to a huge contract and roll with him knowing that DG is going to eventually want his 'own team's and leave the Cavs---or--- you trade Sexton now for value in return that fits your roster and let DG be the 'guy' at the guard position for the future.

I don't think Sexton will ever destroy the league. I think he'll need a pretty precise roster constructed around him to approach anything AI accomplished. More importantly, I think he's going to take years to get to passable defense and I don't want to pay him anywhere near a max contract during that period, and sell off the rest of the roster at a discount, to see what the end result looks like.Stillwater wrote:LivingLegend wrote:Stillwater wrote:Good because that is probably what the Cavs hope can happen is keeping him for less than starting guard $ and when they let him test the market are banking he will probably get south of a max because that is how they see him... There are lesser versions than destroy the league that still justify a near max extension given nobody outside maybe Allen has done enough to "know" they are a better piece long term

Where do you think Sexton improves his game to go to the next level? We have a pretty good picture of who/what he is at this point.
He's a really good scorer but you need to be more than just a 24ppg scorer to be a great player. I'm just curious as to where you see him improving to take that next step because right now he is a pretty 1 dimensional player

To be fair, guys like Harden and Kyrie don't play passable defense either-- although both can get up to the passable level in the playoffs. (Yes, Sexton is light years away from both of them, but he might be close to Kyrie at the same age when the argument was whether Kyrie + Waiters fit together.)

I think this is very much a Kyrie/Waiters or Curry/Ellis situation. The question is who is who. That's something the Cavs need to decide and figure out.
I do know that one player has been put in trade conversation by multiple media outlets and the other is being promoted on the Team USA select team so I'm getting a good general sense of how things are planning out.......
I really just wish Sexton was 3-4" taller and none of this would be a issue as he would be a typical SG, not a SG in a small PGs body.

True, defense isn't everything, but we'd better become a lot better on offense.
Also I think we may need to re-calibrate our expectations for what's really impactful in the league in this era.
Zach Lavine provided the Bulls 28/5/5 on 63.4 TS% and he barely pushed the needle. They made a big play for an offensive-oriented center (Vucevic) thinking it would open things up for them and it's been a dud (so far) ... and weirdly it wasn't because their defense was horrible. They finished 11th in the league in D-rtg. I don't want to over-analyze the Bulls because we've been seeing this elsewhere too ... incredible individual offensive seasons that simply aren't pushing the team as high as we would have historically expected.
I don't think scoring let alone scoring with efficiency has become useless, but it's by no means enough anymore.
