Cavs rumor: Sexton and 3 available.
Why: Sexton and Garland are both undersized guards who struggle defensively with larger guards. Sexton is also due his first extension and Cavs likely see a backcourt of high salary Garland/Sexton as a non-starter.
Why Simmons: Cavs are basically a young non-fully developed Trailblazers. Fitting Simmons next to Garland solves their defensive woes. Garland's range, handling and catch-shoot ability fits nicely with SImmons b/c Simmon's guy can't sag without leaving a step into a jumper opening for Garland.
Trade Package: Sexton & 3. One of Green or Suggs (I prefer Suggs for his refined and mature style of play, Green if we go raw potential). Cavs might balk at this, but we can sweeten the deal by eating K-Love or adding a pick. Sexton can stay or go, if he stays then you can play Suggs or Green next to him or you let those guys grow in experience running the second team while figuring out what Sexton brings.
GSW: Wiseman, Wiggins and 7 and 14.
Why: Dubs want to go all in to maximize Curry's window. Surprised they would want to move Wiseman, but he also likely has a low trade value given his constant injury history even pre-NBA.
Why Simmons: He does fit really well with Steph and Klay, but Draymond presents a problem. I wonder if Draymond could be moved or available over Wiggins.
Trade Package: Wiggins, 7 and future 2-3 picks/swaps (unprotected) beginning in 2024. Either flip 7 for help or use it on Davion to man the PG spot and you just hope he develops fast. Wiggins you see how he fits with Embiid or see if he can be moved later. This is a balance of immediate future while setting the team for a hard and fast reboot if Joel falls apart (as some on here fear).
Kings: Fox.
Why: I have no idea why Fox is available given age and development other than they really love Haliburton and see a future of him, HIeld and Simmons forming a dynamic trio that complement each other well. Plus Kings love doing stupid things and they also can't lure major stars to their team in FA.
Why Simmons: He fits well with Haliburton and Hield.
Trade Package: Fox and maybe 9 for Simmons and future 1st. I think this might have to turn into a straight swap, but if we could steal 9, I would do it as I see an early pick is another asset to flip now or use it to get cheap talent that can develop internally and I like the options between 6-10. I also trust Morey to identify talent given his hits in the past. If Kings wanted to move Bagley, I might bite on that too and take a flyer on him coming off bench in the PF role.
T-Wolves: D'Lo
Why: D'Lo wasn't the solution and couldn't run the team.
Why Simmons: Simmons and KAT fit well, plus they are best buds and the low pressure of Minnesota might help Ben mentally.
Trade Package: D'Lo and Edwards.
Trade intercepted by Indiana: Edwards being rerouted to Indiana for Brogdon to Sixers for Edwards and G-Hill.
Trade intercepted by New Orleans: D'Lo being rerouted to New Orleans in a sign n trade for Lonzo Ball. Or, if a pick or two gets it done you flip D'Lo for Ingram.
Picks likely need to be included, but this one goes beyond my pay grade.
I like the trades in order of Cavs/Kings/GSW/T-Wolves.
Every one of these trades is a huge overpay that will never happen by the teams trading for Simmons. Just ask yourself this question. If you were a fan of these other teams would you make these trades for BEN SIMMONS?
First, I never said these were the final terms. I have an outline of the players I've heard in rumors being available and the structure of a deal I'd be interested in even if we had to include sweeteners like picks going out.
Second, I absolutely would do the GSW trade presuming Klay is coming back healthy. The entire point of my post was to hi-light teams that actually present a natural fit for Ben and what he does very well while covering for his deficiencies. You may think Ben's value is low generally, but I selected teams that might have a higher value for him b/c of his fit for what they need to balance their roster.
