Wow, Lofton Junior winning the game for USA, key, key plays on both sides of the ball. I hope such quirky player can find his niche in the top levels of basketball.

congratz to team usa. were favorites and played better team ball and defense than the senior team.
holmgren will go number 1 unanimous mvp of tourney.
Doncic will be goat. Lauri will be his sidekick.

That’s just the USA youth team formula where the MO is to physically overwhelm teams with either full court press or the offensive rebounding/inside scoring of a post player who’s way stronger than anyone else (Carey Jr and Trevion Williams have done this in recent teams).

He was almost irrelevant in the final though.
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.

He managed to get aggressive with Wembanyama and put 2 fouls on him in the early 4th quarter. Had several other key plays as well on the defensive end.

I dont think he will. i think like bol bol, it becomes obvious between college and workouts that he isnt a big despite his height, and as a wing, he is just good not great.

The size only helps when it forces the other team to go big. but teams can defend chet with a 4, and maybe even a stronger 3. he isnt a nightmare if he forces a switch and isnt quick ro athletic enough to kill you in roll situations, which he seems to avoid anyhow. defensively, im not sure how he pans out. he will be asked to do a ton more then block shots in the pros. and while he is skilled dont see him staying with the lowrys, van vleets, jrues of the world on switches let alone the tier above that.

still lotto, maybe high lotto. but the cant miss #1 stuff to me doesnt fit the eye test

He got absolutely stuffed on the second one...really bad foul call that sent Wembanyama to the bench.

He definitely hit his arm on the follow through, but if it's ball first (and this was *very* clearly ball first) then the follow through shouldn't matter, right?

Holmgren is one of the weakest MVP's in FIBA's youth competitions ever . He didn't deserved it at all. At least two or three american players were more deserving than him, but FIBA is on the hype train as well.

Gee, Wembanyamas palm is like a Tefal frying pan :o :o
Yes, this was a dubious call but wasnt going to happen without Holmgren being aggressive.

This call cost France the game. I mean congrats Chet on winning MVP, He was one of the best players on a winning side for sure, but honestly, Lofton Jr. could have been MVP of the tournament too, so that doesn't ultimately matter here. Chet was NBA material prospect before hand and he is NBA prospect now, but he wasnt as dominant here as Valanciunas, or RJ barrett were in the past, where you were seeing their NBA stock skyrocket before your very eyes. But thats just my opinion.

Holmgren will be considered a bust if he he becomes number one selection in the next year NBA Draft.

Everyone can bulk but how much depends on the build. Holmgren for instance has very narrow frame, unlikely for him to gain much functional weight.

have my reservations about Chet. i've mentioned it before, the size is concerning and IMO to fully max out everything he's capable of you likely have to make him the hub or a hub of your offense.

I just don't see him being cornerstone of the franchise in the NBA , he's not that talented or that good, it would be better for him if he's picked out of the top 3 spots, the less expectations, the less pressure for him, right now he's the great white hope in the USA,everyone is waiting for a great white american superstar, I just don't see that in him, maybe I am wrong, we will see.

Chet's top spot likely won't fall unless one of the other kids do something extraordinary. Chet played the game perfectly picking the Zags. Team will be in the limelight, great coach, and a system that highlights his strengths with enough coverage for his weaknesses. Unless Banch does otherworldly things to stand out from the rest of the Duke boys or Hardy lights the G-League up in some unprecedented way it's going to be hard for Chet to lose his spot if he just plays his game in that Zags system.

that Jayson Tchicamboud kid from France looks hella intriguing, possibly a 22 draft guy
