I was thinking about Lonzo. Knicks can still sign him and pair them up together. Might work out well
This forum would be in meltdown mode before they even step foot on the floor together, it's actually the exact type of player you want next to Sexton, the ball mover glue guy that can run offense but will stand in the corner when he doesn't have the ball.
There's not enough 3P shooting with Sexton-Lonzo-RJ on the perimeter.
I think we underestimate just how impactful Bullock's 3P shooting was last year. He's the one player whose efficiency from 3 actually elevated our scoring efficiency as a team. He was by far our most efficient scorer last year outside of our center rotation.
With Sexton-Lonzo-RJ, you don't have anyone navigating through screens for catch-and-shoot 3s, setting screens for Randle for the relocate-and-catch-and-shoot 3 (which also often forced the switch on Randle), or overall being able to shoot from anywhere on the court with a lightning-quick release.
I think there would be a less need for that if 4 people can handle the ball, he helped our offense in the regular season but ultimately in the playoffs that was just so easy to defend. With 2 more ball handlers out there we'd have less reliance on Randle running offense as much, and could use him more from the top of the key as a screener where he's rolling to the rim or popping out.
If Lonzo's shooting is real, which is a real gamble, then you can run a lot of the same sets with him that we did with Bullock, he shot 38% from 3 on a higher volume and his catch and shoot numbers are very similar to Bullocks (40.2% on 5.9 3PA vs 42.5 on 5.6 3PA). The question becomes is Lonzo's shooting real, if it is then you really aren't losing much there, but you're gaining someone who could do more off the catch if they close out on him, he's not a great finisher but he's much better than Bullock and can make skip passes or throw lobs out of the closeout.
I just think that if you get Sexton, you really need to understand that he's a scoring 2 more than he is a 1, maybe they can develop him into more of a playmaker but as an insurance policy he needs to be played next to a ball mover.
