You can see the Raptors are interested in Ben Simmons so it aint crazy that the Raptors would be interested in a similar player in Barnes. they either want Simmons or Barnes at the 5
Exactly. A small ball 5 who can pass and defend multiple spots is a valuable commodity.
Lol a Small Ball 5....When Most Legit 7 footers are on the Court playing C who can hit 3s better than Barnes....Barnes is not a great Rebounder as well only averaging only 4 rebounds a game....When your playing Small ball you get destroyed in the paint Just like we ended up getting this Last season...Scottie Barnes is 6 foot 8 and is a good defender but hes not a rim protector or a shot blocker by any means and if we run up on teams that have legit Size and bang with a lineup of FVV/GTJR/OG/Siakam/Barnes we would get out rebounded by 30, Attacked in the paint with ease with no rim protection, And we would get beat down inside...And on top of that we would have no 3 point shooting or offensive firepower to withstand that...
We ran FVV/GTJR/OG As our 3 point threats and even had Lowry still and we were terrible and are in the lottery...Now you lose Lowry and expect Barnes to give us anything on offense? where we struggle the most....
The Barnes/OG/Siakam Lineup would be a utter failure and he just doesn't fit with what we need ...And your saying you don't draft on fit alone but get the most talent?....Well Suggs/Green/Mobley are all more talented and have higher upside than Barnes does atm soley based on the 3 point shot and offensive games alone....So at the end of the day we would be drafting for Fit + Talent so its a Win/Win...With Barnes your praying he gets a Jumper and i would rather a for sure thing with any of the Top 4 than a Prayer
Saying that Suggs/Green/Mobley are all more talented and have higher upside is your opinion. How the raps scouts see it is what matters.
As for the small ball stuff. Barnes is a legit 6'8+ in shoes, with super long reach and an excellent vertical. He can absolutely defend the spot for 10-20 mins a game against everyone but the biggest monsters. Besides, you are drafting based on long term potential not day 1. This nonsense about getting destroyed with him playing is such a load of crap. Look at our numbers with Birch at the 5 with Lowry Fred OG and Siakam. We were destroying people with that lineup. (small sample size but still)
He wouldn't be the only big on the roster and you play him at multiple positions.
You change the roster to fit the talent you draft. Only stupid teams like Philly keep trying to fit square plugs into round holes.
It is rather simple. The raps are going to draft the best talent available. And if it is Suggs/Green/Mobley/Kuminga I'm cool with that, but not one of these guys is going to come in day one and be a huge impact player.
I absolutely think Barnes has the potential to be a star player and a piece you win with. I would not be surprised at all if the raps had him slotted higher than suggs and green. I would also not be surprised if they have him rated much lower. Time will tell.
p.s Birch draft measurements vs Barnes.
Khem Birch.. PF/C__ 9.0 8.5 6' 7.5'' 6' 9.25'' 8' 11'' 208.8 7' 1''
Scottie Barnes SF __9.25 10.25 6’7.0” 6’8.0” 9’0.0” 225.4 7’2.75”
