Not you, and I'm not totally sold on Sexton either, but what are people hoping will happen here?
In no particular order, here are the players who aren't "good enough" for them:
Sexton
Ball
DeRozan
Fournier
And a bunch of others
While I see "Lowry or Conley for 2 years would be great!" and
"Well, we are going to get LaVine"
"OKC will trade us OKC for a bag of chips"
I mean, it's this constant "player X isn't good enough" or some unrealistic trade for a guy the Knicks don't have a shot at, or a very long shot at.
And Lowry and Conley will get 2 years, and then the Knicks are maxing out Randle & RJ and Mitch might get paid and there won't be any money anyway.
So, what is the get people are looking for?
That Graham might be cheaper?
2 years of Dunn?
Draft 3 guys from 19-32?
I'd take a bet that Hyland would be as good for the Knicks as Sexton
What if he's Anorexic Tim Hardaway Jr instead? Jerian Grant in need of a hamburger?

I think thats a fair point. But D'lo trajectory due to injuries and his max skillset kinda maxed out. Sexton currently is on a upward trajectory. That is why there is some risk level too it.
Sexton is 22 if you believe he still ascending as a player. Kinda the LaVine situation then it makes sense to make the committment. If he kinda plateaus like D'lo then you probably don't have a valuable asset.
i'm fine with it for the year. it's after that. i can't be convinced that signing both randle and sexton to maxes makes sense. even if they both play very good. it just won't be good enough to contend.
thats why you have to sign another player before and use there cap holds to our benefit.
Ultimately that is why Sexton is probably coming cheaper then expected because teams have questions about paying him all that money.
Right. After giving this some thought, I think the Knicks brass knows Sexton isnt the ultimate answer but he's a great ladder to the next disgruntled superstar that wants out.
He's young
Will have great scoring stats
and will have a huge contract to match up with the incoming players salary
Folks this isn't about Sexton (unless he does actually tun into a true blue chipper) it's about that next guy. He's bait for Lavine, or Lilliard or whoever else on that level will want out.....
In the meantime we add a 24ppg scorer to a playoff squad for minimal assets....No bad at all IMO.

Ironically, Quick is more like Garland than Sexton.
I like IQ a lot. I think he'll get better. And better at driving it. I wouldn't count on it for next year.
I'm not counting on RJ being a lot better at it either.
Knicks need to get another player who can actually drive the ball, because at the moment they have exactly zero players who can do it. Since the two that could, Rose and Burks, are about to be UFA's. Sure, we can assume Rose will be back, but is that the plan to go into next season?

i thought we were trading randle to start the year. everyone did. thibs without randle & rose was still gonna lose most of our games. i was robbed of a chance to pick 8th again. lol

Having to trade some stuff for Sexton and not being able to trade for SGA or Lillard is the sins of past and current Knick FOs coming due.
Could have had Mitchell, drafted Frank
Could have had SGA, drafted Knox
Could have had Haliburton, drafted Obi.
Any of those picks go correctly, especially the first two, and either the Knicks aren't thinking of trading for anyone, or maybe they are thinking of sending SGA out for Lillard.
Drafting matters. Even when you trade the guys.
Knicks fans have Cadillac dreams but we have Dollar Tree assets.

I think that’s the problem with some of y’all.. our assets aren’t great to begin with. If we can get Sexton with the proposed package we offered up.. we robbed em.. look at the consensus opinions on the deal on general board and even social media.. we have crap in the way of prospects and picks.. so getting an “actual star” as some of you call it with what we have is a long shot any way
Agreed but does trading for Sexton make you a better TEAM? Or are you tossing away what 'little' assets you do have for a guy who doesn't move the needle imo. Someone like Hyland has as much potential to making the TEAM better as Sexton. Now does Sexton's stats look good? Damn straight! But is he a team player? Again, based on his past and what his teammates have indicated.... Nope!
I think he makes us better much better because he brings us that shot creating guard we absolutely lack. He’s a “point guard” in the mold of one that our coach salivates for. Would you call Chicago MVP Rose a true set the table type point guard?

I know Thibs has his flaws and probably a shelf life, but while he's here, why don't the Knicks get all crazy and get him some players that fit the style he likes to play. *
*Except that whole two bigs thing. Have to set some limits to save Thibs from himself.

I'm not trying to make excuses but if drafting was easy more teams would be really good at it. Its an inexact science even with these teams have a ton of info. Our boards have been completely split
Frank/DSJ/Monk were all much higher on nearly everyone's board over Mitchell
Knox is a little bit of a different story I think there were big camps for Mikal and SGA along with some very happy with Knox. Some even went on gushing about his summer league that we got the steal of the draft.
Haliburton probably should have been the pick

He's a SG in a PG body and one who doesn't shoot well. Garland was the starting PG as Cleveland moved Sexton to SG. And he's a guy who likes to dribble until he finds an opening. How does that mesh with Randle? And absolutely not to answer your question... but would you say that Sexton could carry MVP Rose's jockstraps?

You're probably right but I'd much rather be patient... I just don't see Sexton playing well with Randle. Lavine or SGA or someone else may ask for a trade. If we deplete our assets here - we're likely to regret it imo
The problem with being patient is that sometimes the music stops and you’re stuck without a chair. That’s pretty much what happened to Danny Ainge and he’s now out of a job. I don’t really see how making this Sexton move takes us out of the running of either of those players. Especially since Lavine is a free agent next summer. We’d have a much better pitch to him since our core of Randle, Sexton, and RJ are in their early to mid 20’s. That should be a very easy sell instead of playing with over 30 Vuc. So that’s my plan.

sexton is more like a souped up younger version of current rose. i guess no rose if this happens. it'll be him and luca at point.
