Because they tried having the best bench in the league for 2 years. Whether or not Jrue was the guy to shoot their wad on (lol) is the main question imo.

Had they not signed 5'8" dj augustin who everyone knew would be useless in the playoffs they'd be in a much better position depth wise.

I'd still give Ayton the FMVP. Last game when he sat, the Bucks blew it open. Now the Suns are holding the lead with their "best" guy on the bench. Shows the importance of an interior presence for defense and rebounding.
