He's not a great defender, okay, but don't propose trading for Dame or Steph or a prime Steve Nash then.
In my opinion, most of the Sexton doubters seem to argue for the sake of saying something. Given what we've been sorely lacking, it's ridiculous.
Hey bruh, I come in peace... not going to get into a debate today because we both know where we stand. With that said... do you feel Sexton is a good ball mover? Do you think he makes others around him better? Lastly, do you think he compliments Randle?
No.
I think he needs to be good in pnr and drive and kick. He can do that and he can be our go to guy. He'll unlock RJ that way and take pressure off Randle.
He'll take us to another level, while neither Lonzo nor Frank would imo.
What do you think?
Good points! And if used correctly, I guess all those things can be true. What scares me about his game is (to date) he hasn't exhibited the ability consistently create for others. He likes to go iso - in which he excels.
He certainly takes the pressure off of Randle but here's another issue with that -- neither of them are off the ball players. Randle proved he's an all-star player by being the guy. He excelled by having the ball in his hands and needs a guy who can knock down open shots. Meanwhile Sexton is an average 3 point shooter.
Who do you hand the keys to? I can't see JR taking a back seat in a contract year. Then there's RJ. He's gotten a lot better @ catch and shoot along with the ability to make the pass after driving to the basket. Does Sexton fit in with him? I don't know man... you can't ignore the fact that Sexton is a dog but if you're honestly building around RJ/JR, I'd be looking for a lead guard who looks to make others better by creating and can hit an open shot. Yet at the same time being able to defend.
Imo, Sextons much better than say Lowry but I think Lowry would be a better fit for the Knicks presently constructed. (No, I'm not advocating for Lowry)
Simply put, I think Sexton is a guy who needs the ball to be successful. With Julius in tow, can Thibs/ should Thibs allow Sexton to become the main guy?
With that said, if they could make it work- obviously we're a better club with the trade. But Sexton (just going by his past) doesn't seem like a team first guy to me.
