Hey bruh, I come in peace... not going to get into a debate today because we both know where we stand. With that said... do you feel Sexton is a good ball mover? Do you think he makes others around him better? Lastly, do you think he compliments Randle?
No.
I think he needs to be good in pnr and drive and kick. He can do that and he can be our go to guy. He'll unlock RJ that way and take pressure off Randle.
He'll take us to another level, while neither Lonzo nor Frank would imo.
What do you think?
Good points! And if used correctly, I guess all those things can be true. What scares me about his game is (to date) he hasn't exhibited the ability consistently create for others. He likes to go iso - in which he excels.
He certainly takes the pressure off of Randle but here's another issue with that -- neither of them are off the ball players. Randle proved he's an all-star player by being the guy. He excelled by having the ball in his hands and needs a guy who can knock down open shots. Meanwhile Sexton is an average 3 point shooter.
Who do you hand the keys to? I can't see JR taking a back seat in a contract year. Then there's RJ. He's gotten a lot better @ catch and shoot along with the ability to make the pass after driving to the basket. Does Sexton fit in with him? I don't know man... you can't ignore the fact that Sexton is a dog but if you're honestly building around RJ/JR, I'd be looking for a lead guard who looks to make others better by creating and can hit an open shot. Yet at the same time being able to defend.
Imo, Sextons much better than say Lowry but I think Lowry would be a better fit for the Knicks presently constructed. (No, I'm not advocating for Lowry)
Simply put, I think Sexton is a guy who needs the ball to be successful. With Julius in tow, can Thibs/ should Thibs allow Sexton to become the main guy?
With that said, if they could make it work- obviously we're a better club with the trade. But Sexton (just going by his past) doesn't seem like a team first guy to me.
It becomes easier to envision if you consider that we're dearly lacking a ball handler and shoot creator, basically a leaf guard like Sexton. You give him the ball and Randle gets his share. Giannis and Jrue and Middleton handle the ball, paul and Booker too. I think it's a good fit.

I'd be willing to absorb Love if that's what it takes to get this deal done. Never gonna happen though.

Nah, it’s more like we’re banking on his improvement. Defense through Thibs. A bit of adjustment to his play style so he remains aggressive but passes some more and learns to play off ball more.
In my point of view, it’s a good gamble. He has his warts but we’re also not paying full price for a 24 point scorer. Normally, I hate the type of player Sexton represents and people here know I’ve gotten into arguments over it, but I feel I have a lot more confidence in this coaching staff now. He’s not a true PG but he can still be a productive player. We carried Elfrid and we can make this work.
That is, if we make the trade.

Also, I feel like I’m just setting myself up for disappointment when we make a trade for a 2023 2nd on draft day.

The only think I choose to do is say that Knicks aint the only game in town with Sexton. You choose to respond with your beliefs, when its a pretty sure thing that multiple Teams are interested in his talent. Why wouldnt they he is a border line all star type talent.
You're wrong. He's a ball hogging PG who his own teammates dislike, absolutely atrocious on Defense and nowhere near an "All-Star" performer.
Teams don't quit on future All-stars after only 3 years (as Cleveland is ALREADY quitting on Sexton 8th overall after only 3 years of failure).
Quitting. I love this.

As long as we don’t enter the year without a long term answer at point guard either from free agency or draft, or both.

I'm sure plenty are interested, in a vacuum.
The question is how many of them are offering more than what the Knicks are.
Based on the nature of the Cavs leaks, the answer appears to be not many, at this moment in time and the Cavs have an interest in moving him before the draft.
They also have interest in doing this.
I think my point stand tho. It's not as if his values to teams falls off a cliff in a few months.
SGA + #6 for #3...?

I feel like when some of you guys say "long term".. you're thinking like 7+ years. If you are, no GM thinks like that. They see the contract that they give and that's the duration of it. You don't think "oh Sexton, he will be here until he's 35!" or Lonzo Ball will be here for 10 years?! Nah dudes, they are like 3-4 year contracts.
