looks in good shape in that pic actually, that's gonna be key for him, keep the baby fat off to maximize his athletic potential, but he's gotta stay in that shape while getting stronger.

Joker has just averaged 25/6/13 against Deandre Ayton and people have been praising DA as one of the best defenders against him in the entire league.

I dunno man. Kevin Love started going into the tank after losing all of his fat.

Re: Alperen Şengün
Sengun’s height doesn’t look like a problem to me in that picture. I will say though his narrow shoulders and short arms do worry me. Maybe it’s just Whiteside’s massive 7’7 wingspan causing Sengun’s to look so much worse by comparison, but Sengun looks a little bit undersized in terms of reach there.
Still would take him 5th or so though.

Hmm...if he is this far behind in his English that he needs a translator isn't that going to make it hard for him to communicate on the court, in practice, etc?

I don't get it with this guy. They are praising those highlights. Those highlights look like what Spencer Hawes or any NBA big man can do. There is no way he can do those spin moves against NBA bigs.

Back and forth on this guy. It seems petty simple, he is skilled and that translates but there are questions if he can defend in space. That’s it. He’s clearly an NBA player.

Anyone have any additional information or feedback on how Aperen Sengun's workout went with the Kings at the Golden 1 Center on Saturday July 17th per the following articles from the Fresno Bee, NBC Sports Bay Area, the Sacramento Bee and twitter?

Come the F on EvanZ. Look at what you're complaining about now? Concerns about his defense is one thing and totally justifiable. You're complaining that hes "this far behind in English he needs a translator". Your dislike for him is confusing to say the least.

I agree fully, although I need to see official measurements.

probably he understands passable english, at least in the context of basketball but has problems expressing himself. It is a common problem for most Turks.
what i can comment as being a Turkish native is that the girl who interprets knows nothing about the basketball terminology. Based on what alperen says and what she translates is equally bad

Yeah hopefully plays like this isn't how he projects defensively, yikes

I have him 10th on my board. Let's try to be objective. Of course communication is important. Unless you think his translator can play.

i dont have a lot of confidence in his D projecting to the NBA like ive been saying in this thread, his stocks will not translate to the NBA really, and he's gonna struggle a bit with more spacing and when asked to switch/rotate quicker
i don't think he'll be totally bad on D but people talking about him as a great defender aren't really doing him any favors in that department. i think if he's net neutral on D in the NBA you should take that and run.

Yeah this clip is only 1 play but it makes me concerned about Sengun defending in space while at the same time looks like Roko might be a step quicker than he was in older videos I've seen of him..

Yep, that's the key here.

Re: Alperen Şengün
Here's the whole play, for context:

-Sengun has to contain the P&R ballhandler and then recover to Prkacin.
-This isn't an easy closeout! The floor is well-spaced, and Prkacin is a versatile offensive player.
-First and foremost, Sengun doesn't want to give up a 3, and he doesn't want Prkacin to drive with his strong right hand. By avoiding those two outcomes, this is not an egregiously bad closeout.
-Prkacin reads the situation and executes nicely, looking for a moment like he's going to drive right, then immediately crossing over and forcing Sengun to switch directions. This is good offense! Moves like that will be his bread and butter as an NBA PF.
-You can see that Prkacin's handle is a little loose with his left hand! He gets away with it on this occasion, but if that's an NBA wing pinching in there, that might be a steal. Prkacin was fairly turnover-prone in situations like this, though his left hand will probably improve with experience.
-Finally, Sengun needs to stay with the play to make that catch and finish more difficult for #13. He hesitates for a moment after getting beaten, and by the time he realizes he needs to help out at the rim it's too late. Not a great effort, but that's fixable with coaching and experience.

Yeah I mean Yao Ming needed a translator for pretty much his whole career, right? And he was still an 8x all-star
