I'd still take Monty over Nash right now.

No he wasnt. he had the best player in the world dropping 50 point games.

Best player in the world had very little help around him, aside from Blake Griffin and Jeff Green for 1 game. You can't be serious comparing depleted Nets team to a relatively healthy Suns team.Prokorov wrote:DarkXaero wrote:Nash was working with less in the last 3 and 1/2 games of that series, so we'll see.MrDollarBills wrote:

All I know for sure is that... Sean Marks was right, and I was wrong.
This is unquestionably a Nets championship without Giannis doing Kyrie like that.
I wish this was just some "sour-grapes" shizzle. That is, I like to be the 'voice of reason' where possible. But... yeah, nah... Nets fans (and Sean) were right, and I was wrong.

Playoff KD plus Harris, Green, Blake, Shamet, Claxton is better then a healthy suns team.
and KD with a 3-2 lead and home court shouls 100% take down the bucks
nash cost us a title. and it isnt even remotely debatable.

No, it isnt. Durant is several tiers better then anyone on the suns. if the nets played the suns without kyrie/harden and we had a coach besides nash we win in 6 or less.
KD is that good. Nash is that bad.

So, prok.
Are you ready to admit that Brook Lopez CAN start and contribute on a contending team? You said in 2016 that he won’t ever do it lol

CotY runner up Monty Williams, the coach far superior to "mediocrity" like Steve Nash, managed to lose 4 straight to the Milwaukee Bucks with a relatively healthy team. Grass is always greener on the other side...

Now let's hear your take...?
My take stays the same. It's still 2-1 Suns, and this was a must win for the Bucks. Still not impressed with the Bucks at all.
And in relation to Nash, the Nets dominated the Bucks through 3 games, and certainly didn't get blown out like Monty Williams did tonight.
Kinda have to eat the crow on this one, Giannis and the Bucks showed me up...I was 100% wrong.
As much crap as the Suns deserve for this loss, the Bucks deserve all the credit in the world, and Giannis put up a GOAT-level performance in game 6. That was otherworldly. He's officially the best player in the league right now, that was something special. He was dominant the entire Finals honestly.

Eh... Giannis is great, but I wouldn't go overboard. He's who he's always been he / the Bucks were just the extreme beneficiaries of injuries to other teams... Ditto for the Suns.
I'd feel very comfortable putting big money down that neither of these teams sniff the finals next year.

Congrats to Bucks and their fans. Legendary performance by Giannis. But we all know that was our chip.

Giannis stayed in a small town and delivered the chip with a historic showing in the finals despite what looked like a season ending knee hyper extension. Have to give him huge credit for that. I have no doubt we will win next year with our talent level and having the time to gel along with our coaching staff. Iam done listening to the blame game, life isn’t perfect and neither are people. We are going to win, we have all the tools, and that’s all that matters.

I mean, Giannis just dropped 50/14/5 with dominant defense in a closeout Finals game...that was one of the greatest performances I've ever seen. And he just straight up abused the Suns all series long.
I don't like Giannis (the player), I would love to crown KD the best...but KD never played that good, not even in his game 5 performance. Sometimes we can just give credit where credit is due.

Again, Giannis is great but in full context... He was up against a weaker than normal finals opponent and it can be largely argued injuries were the primary reason his team was able to make the finals.
You can't deny that what he did do in the finals was impressive but barring the same stroke of luck next year it wouldn't be surprising to see the Bucks lose in the second round... Giannis is having his Kawhi moment but he's not head and shoulders above the other top players in the league.

I think that is banking on us being healthy. I'd say the early favorite to win it next year, just like this year, is the winner of the Nets-Bucks series. I believe they're the two best teams barring league altering changes.

Re: "Around the NBA": 2020-21 Season Thread
KD's game 5 was just as good if not better. It seems like we're all prone to recency bias. KD dropped 49 pts, 17 rebounds, 10 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks on incredibly high TS%, he dominated in the clutch, and his defense was fantastic in that game. To say "KD never played that good" when he clearly did, it's absurd. KD's game 5 performance had the highest playoffs gamescore of all time iirc, and he did it with less help on the roster that game.therealbig3 wrote:I mean, Giannis just dropped 50/14/5 with dominant defense in a closeout Finals game...that was one of the greatest performances I've ever seen. Re: "Around the NBA": 2020-21 Season Thread
To dismiss what KD did in game 5 is absurd. The Suns were clearly beneficiaries of all of the injuries that took players out this season and it showed. Giannis played great, but to say KD never played that good is complete revisionism.
