Free Agent Targets
I know the current focus is on the draft, but it's less than two weeks away and it's hard to talk about it anymore, personally.
So what free agents do you have your eye on this summer?
Obviously, we're not targeting a game changer. Or even a guy to give substantial minutes to.
But a veteran presence who can be that mentor type on the bench would be great. A guy who shows up to work and stays in shape despite not playing, takes care of his body, has played deep in the playoffs... Someone like that.
I don't know if we're a match, but Paul Millsap fits that description.
Anyone else given any thought?

I wouldn't mind overpaying Taj Gibson on a one-year deal. He could kick Bamba's ass in practice for half of a season and then fetch us a second rounder at the deadline.

Re: Free Agent Targets
one thing i always like about the NBA, they do free agency AFTER the draft. So you know what spots you need filled.
I hate that the NFL does it before the draft. can completely change the way you draft if you know you have to draft a specific position because you didnt sign someone in FA before that draft

This is what we need, a tough vet that doesn't want playing time but would push our guys in practice and teach them work ethic (like battie used to do or even like haslem in miami)
Suggs, Tyus, Jase
Bane, AB, Jett
Franz, TDS,
P5, JI, Panda
Wcj, Goga, Moe

Lunch Pail would be a great fit on this tetra and a one-year deal allows the Magic to move All-in for the 2022/23 season.
Add Wagner and Brazdeikis, and for me, the FA pool is complete.

Re: Free Agent Targets
3 point shoot,3 point shoot,3 point shoot,is all we need from free agency.
would be incredibly dumb build another time a just-defensive-minded team with absolutely no spacing at all.
and possibly not 33% veteran shooters at minimum contracts, but real specialists.

Hopefully we follow the lead of Atlanta and OKC, and broker some deals. Maybe we can help a team clear some space for some assets.

If we gave him Fournier type minutes and usage, he'd be just as productive.Skin wrote:

Re: Free Agent Targets
I think otto porter is the key to our off season. Either we do a sign and trade to pick up more assets and salary (increases overall salary cap). Or we sign him at a discount on a prove it deal, that could be dealt later or kept at a position of need.
Otto's peak years were close to 50/40/90 (career 40% 3pt), while playing very good D. I think we forget how good this 6'8" SF was before injuries.
Managing our cap space and maximizing it during our projected peak years should be priority #1 of our free agency periods.

If you were Coach, would you start Porter or Okeke?

Still think Okeke is more of a 4. Yah, start Porter until he proves he is ready to be good again or that he is not the same player. You don't sign him to showcase him on the bench. He wouldn't sign here either if that was the plan.

For some reason I thought next year was his last contract year. Anyway, yea, I would love to sign him. Damn good shooter usually and has a high IQ. Perfect vet for this team.
I think Wagner deserves to come back. He fits our new aggressively competitive theme, and he's not a bad offensive player.

Re: Free Agent Targets
Great point on leveraging a sign and trade for Porter.
As far as fits and culture…

Selfishly, I’d love them to steal Markkanen (4 years, 60 Million?)
2022: 16.5 Million
2023: 15.5 Million
2024: 14.5 Million
2025: 13.5 Million
Sign Igoudala to Bi-Annual Exception
2022: 3.7 Million
2023: 3.9 Million
Sign Redick (Retire with Magic) to Veteran Minium
2022: 2.6 Million

Re: Free Agent Targets
The only FA id sign right now would be signing THT to a deal the lakers wouldnt match, especially if we dont draft one of green\bouknight\moody next week. I get that it will be a bigger contract than people would be comfortable with, but i think he has shown enough upside to justify the big risk
If we dont get one of those 3, im signing hm and letting him and RJ fight it out for the SG spot and hope one of them really breaks out

This and the draft is all that the FO should be focused on.

THT is another player i cant get on board with. I honestly dont know what people see in him. 6'4 234, chubby and moves slow for a SG. not a good distance shooter.
help me out, what am i not seeing when people bring up his name?

It would be Isaac-3 and Okeke-4 or Porter-3 and Isaac-4 under these comparison scenarios.
