Budenholzer Appreciation Thread
Let’s give coach Bud the credit he deserves. Other than an awful game 5 vs Brooklyn and bad game 1’s vs Atlanta and Phoenix, he was really, really good in this postseason. His redemption arc is something I did not expect. He made the right adjustments, game after game. He got his guys to play hard and be mentally tough when it mattered.
I used to think that we’ll never win a title with coach Bud. I’m happy to say that I was very wrong.

Re: Budenholzer Appreciation Thread
I think that Bud's lack of adjustments and grasp of the moment cost us the Toronto series (two years back) and that we surely would have beat a hobbled Warriors team in the finals. So in this light, the Budenholzer angst and doubt was reasonable. Having said that, he coached brilliantly throughout this season and playoffs. His legacy will be as a multiple time coach of the year, and NBA champion. He won't soon buy drinks or dinners in this town. He gets killed on tactical stuff many fans don't understand in totality. His players love playing for him. I was pretty fed up during the Brooklyn series. As of today, I could not appreciate him more.

Thanks Bud. I don’t tend to take strong stances around here, but mid way through the Brooklyn series I was done with the guy. I still hate the lack of structure on offense, but hey, you can’t argue with the results.

Eh, I still think they won in spite of him, not because of him.

Re: Budenholzer Appreciation Thread
Man, what the hell happened with this guy. We started the season playing the ugliest basketball I've ever seen, although always analytically efficient (and at the same time ugly as ****), and then in the playoffs when things got tough the dude turned into a total chameleon. Every random fan wish, he tried it. Every adjustment I could think of, he did it. Stuff I didn't even think of but read about them here as potential adjustments, he did those too.
Thanks Bud, that's all I have to say. Now do it again

Game 5 when we refused to trap KD, I gave up on Bud. I would still, in a vacuum, be fine replacing him, but obviously that's now a non-starter, and he's a damn good coach regardless of his shortcomings. I always thought it'd be difficult to do better, but after G5, I felt it was going to be necessary to try. It wasn't!
He did show a lot of growth and flexibility, even if it wasn't as real-time as would have been ideal.

162-65 regular season record since he took over. 32-17 postseason record with 7 playoff series wins and now a title. 10-0 in series closeout games for his career. Was always stupid the amount of criticism he unjustly got hurled his way. Timestamp that **** back in 2017 (don't @ me, I'm too lazy to look up the exact date I started posting about it). I said with the Hawks tanking that Bud was the guy to go out and get. Top-3 coach in the league who's universally loved by basically every guy that's played for him.
Giannis won us a chip, but Bud changed the whole team culture.

Would you run through a wall for this guy? I know one player who did, repeatedly.
The importance of mutual respect between coach and players cannot be overstated. Love, love, love. Love is all you need. It trumps scheme and it trumps adjustments in the fluid, improvisatory game of basketball.
You can have your clipboard jockeys. Give me randomness and respect. Well done, Bud.

With a couple of small exceptions, I thought Bud was **** fantastic since midway through the Brooklyn series

Agree 100%. You had to get from Point A to Point B first. Bud was the best candidate to do that. And while we weren't sure he could get from Point B to Point C, he did. Long live the Budenholzer!

Both Bud and Gianni evolved. For the better. Nothing but respect. He seems like a genuinely good person and the players love him.

Bud will get a Carlisle-esque tenure from here on out; he will have job security for a while. Well deserved, he made adjustments and outcoached the opposing team in the highest stage. Cannot ask for better, especially after last couple years.

Re: Budenholzer Appreciation Thread
We all criticised him, nothing wrong with that as he wasn't making adjustments. Perhaps was one game away from getting fired. Now he will get an extension. Crazy turn around but he deserves it now we are champs (feels weird to say, gotta get use to it lol).
