You’ll probably see Garuba roam more in the NBA.

He’s well good enough to defend variety.

Not high on him as a full time Center just not tall enough. But free safety PF? Sure easily.

Anyway it’s a two suitable wing setup big or small.

Don’t want to pigeon hole him and where he goes is key for his development.

Defense will translate but his offense needs work. I think it’s all too much, simplify it for him, establish a base then go from there. Have the base first offensively before the other stuff.

As a low usage, switchy C who can hit the corner 3? Love the kid. Compliment him w/ a true 7' footer and you have enough to get by. Thats how you do it at C unless you have a elite center IMO.

he is a 100% small ball center bc he has no offensive skills. but his defense is appealing he is a cannot miss prospect at late lotto and can shoot corner 3s.
kind of a mini project bc his ceiling isnt unlimited like giannis/poku.
Doncic will be goat. Lauri will be his sidekick.

Garuba got almost 15 minutes in Spain's first Olympic game against Japan. 15 minutes is kinda impressive when you take into account the fact that Spain has brought its full array of stars (that isn't retired like Navarro and Reyes) and that Garuba is just 19.

Garuba didn't do anything of note offensively (only took 2 shots, missed them both, went 1/2 at the FT line and generally just stood in the corner or in the dunker's spot) but he did showcase his defensive versatily. He successfully switched to guards and closed off driving lanes forcing turnovers, he closed out well to shooters and he stayed with Rui Hachimura when he was tasked to do that. In fact, he had a very nice defensive possession against Rui when Rui seemingly went for a step-back 3 but then faked and attempted to lean in to get the foul call. Garuba didn't beat on the fake and then blocked Hachimura's shot as he leaned it.

All in all, a good debut for him :D

I was impressed with the handful of possessions vs the USA where he was tasked to stay with durant, even if he was screened. he's easily one of the best defensive prospects in the draft he is so damn quick laterally for his size and has good instincts @ reading offensive players. big fan of his , he's almost like a souped up version of jamychal green right now (with less shooting obviously) imo. guarding 3/4/5's.

Millsap+. He just needs to hit the corner 3.

US sports media is pushing him as a power forward, and he can play at that position. But he's definitely better as a center.

Garuba's NBA buyout amount from Real Madrid is €3 million euros ($3.538 million US dollars).

Hoping he falls to NY at 19. We need a replacement for Gibson/Noel. I believe Garuba will find it easier to score in the NBA and get his offense developing. There is way more space in the NBA than La Liga and Garuba is very experienced playing in an elite league. Way better experience than NCAA. Garuba is ranked in my top 10 big board...but everyone focused on offense and shooting so if he falls I hope its to my Knicks.

Usman Garuba’s NBA buy out set at €3 million

Additional statements here:
https://basketnews.com/news-154349-real-madrid-to-get-at-least-3m-buyout-for-garuba.html

"his contract with Real includes an NBA buyout clause of 3 million euros, per BasketNews sources ... According to BasketNews sources, if Garuba transfers to the NBA in summer 2022, it will cost him an additional €1M. Every other season in Europe will increase his buyout by another €1M."[/b]

If this detail of an growing buyout clause is true, he's either drafted higher than expected or he is drafted in the 2nd; he won't be coming over until his euro contract expires in 2025.

The NBA franchise which will pick Garuba can pay up to $750.000 for a buy out and the rest of the money will come from the player’s salary. The two sides are expected to negotiate a payment plan in instalments in order to accommodate the possible wish of the player to move to the NBA.

Considering of course the rookie salary scale that defines the exact contract each player gets depending on the number he is picked, if Garuba falls out of the lottery, then the three million euros buy out may complicate his move from Europe to the NBA.

After the Olympics, all the debates about Garuba already being a decent shooter and scorer off the ball should be ended now. Anyone who watched him play with Real Madrid knew he was extremely raw and limited on shooting and offense. Now, after the Olympics, people that didn't realize that before should also realize it now.

His offense is basically layups and dunks. Spain played 4 on 5 on offense for every second he played during the Olympics. Which again shows that he really is more of a center than a four. He didn't even look remotely comfortable trying to play the four, during the Olympics.
