If Suggs was an option at 5 and we pass over him for freaking Kuminga, I'd be pretty pissed.

Upside is most elusive, subjective category. Some may call it imagination. It is what someone thinks may happen and it is what gets GMs fired, enabling random non-lottery clubs to draft franchise talents. Having a 1st pick in a draft is valuable because you can simply pick the best player overall and let others use upside for reasoning.

They even mentioned a few times where a player is on their Big Board and how that greatly differs from this Upside Board.

This is very interesting indeed and is fun to look at. It’s also important to remember what we are looking at with respect to an actual draft.

The important this for me is that with our #5 pick you see the top “Upside” names are the same names we see in the Big Board mocks. That is good.

What gets interesting is how quickly the wheels fall off after the #6 spot. The names we have been discussing get shuffled around A LOT. Getting great long term value at #8 will be a challenge.

If I'm thinking only about upside, I'm really intrigued by Giddey...he's got weaknesses, but he could be a real game-changer. His vision and BBIQ can change a whole team's offensive feel.

If Suggs is there, he's the pick at 5. If not than its Barnes or Bouknight. I think Kuminga could be one of the best players in the draft but he won't be among the best in his draft class in his rookie year. When drafting we are trying to envision the player entering year 3 with us. Only a few rookies maybe at best are ready in their rookie year.

Moody is #20 in the upside mock. That is ridiculous. He has 3-and-D written all over him. That is an extremely valuable player in the modern NBA.

Moody's jumper projects as undefendable.

I think the top 8 picks go like this

1. Cade
2. Green
3. Mobley
4. Suggs
5. Barnes
6. Bouknight
7. Kuminga
8. Moody

When ESPN opens up their NBA draft pick em tomorrow and the game is to guess the top 14 picks, I'll worry about that tomorrow.

isn't that every mock draft?

I like diff ones that aren't always what the consensus is, particularly because real drafts always end up more like these.. and the draft a lot more surprises usually as well, more than all of these mock drafts that have the same guys in the lottery

Probably the best passer in the draft, at 6'7". No idea if any other skill is going to be good enough. Still, the upside is huge, especially where you could get him.

I mean I guess they are both white Australians, but Ingles was like 26 when made it to the NBA. He averaged 2 assists during his international career. This kid averaged 7.5 assists as a young 18 year old in the same league we just saw Lamelo Ball average 6.8 assists.

when all you can do is pass, you better be decent at it. Kendall Marshall could only pass, dont think he even lasted his full rookie deal

He scores as efficiently as Bouknight - should we call him a 3 level scorer as well?

Zing! This narrative that Giddey can't score is weird.

This draft reached epic level of fake news and smokescreens.

Nobody is drafting Barnes over Mobley of Green. Not a single GM is on crack, so that's not happening.

This Barnes and Kuminga hype is pretty much fabricated hype from their people. Nobody drafts somebody higher because of interview. Every person can go on and yell how he is hardest worker. Counter questoin to every Scotti Barnes yell how hard he works can always be " if so, why your jumpshot is a** for 4 years straight".

It doesn't matter how great somebody was at workout where he played 1 on 1 vs *insert random 45 years old coach or former player's name here*. That's how Kwame was drafted over Chandler, serious nba teams don't care about workouts in isolated situations where player shoots corner 3s.

Teams project floor, ceiling and fit to XY amount of players they view as integral for thier future team. And in very rare situations where you have potentially superstar from day 1, they project near-future moves to make transition process from rebuild toward compeating as smooth and fast as possible.

I saw on OPP incredible amount of posters famming over Barnes...because he reminds them on Giannis... and project Moody to be next Middelton and Suggs to be next Jrue. I never rolled my eyes harder.

Every top player was drafted at some point. It is easy to say X player is going to be bad. it takes skill to say X player is going to be good and be right. Are you suggesting everyone in this draft isn't an NBA player? I don't really get your point here Pepe.

My birthday is coming up BTW pepe, will you sing the Birthday song for me?
