Is RJ Hampton 6'7 now???

Post#1 » by Skin » Fri Jul 23, 2021 3:07 am

I caught this rumor flying around this forum earlier today and it's been driving me nuts trying to find out the truth. If he really is 6'7 and maybe still growing, I'm hoping our forum community can help investigate and figure it out!

Because if sooo..... COULD he be our future starting SF??!

Maybe we trade up for Suggs because the Magic project Hampton to play the 3 next season!!! We know Mosely values passing, this idea fits.

Fultz / Anthony / Hampton
Suggs / Hampton / Anthony
Hampton / Okeke
Isaac / Okeke / Wagner
Carter Jr / Bamba

LESSSGGOOOO!!! DIG THE TRUTH!

Kinda still doubt it. Its not like they measured him & know for sure he grow. Lloyd only said he looked taller when he saw him train. That is pretty subjective & reminds of the first few off seasons of Dwight. Every reporter or guys from the Org said too, that they think Dwight grow & he looks taller. In the end he never did at all.
Would be cool if he grow a inch or more like JI, but 6'7 i highly doubt & woudnt be surprised he is still the same height.

Evan was legitimate 6'7'' and has more size on RJ, but playing SF wasn't his forte. I wouldn't expect RJ to be able to match Fournier's production at SF on either side. He is combo guard prototype, hopefully a starter quality one day.

RJ is only 20. plenty of cases where players grew, look at Giannis, he grew 3". i wouldnt write him in at SF right now though, lets just let his game grow and see what he can become. even if we get Suggs, him and RJ together at PG and SG would still be nice.

It's pretty rare for anyone to grow after they turn 19. For the overwhelming majority of us our growth plates harden when we are 18. FIFA use MRIs on the legs on U-17 footballers to make sure they are not lying about their age, which had been a real problem in countries without sufficient record keeping. Now that is measuring the opposite, people older lying about being younger. But the science is solid, men's growth plates mostly harden before they turn 19. There are exceptions, but they are the exception and not the rule.

Giannis apparently falls into this category, assuming his initial draft measurements were accurate, he was still 18 when he made his NBA debut.

RJ turned 20 in February, still possible to grow into your twenties, just becomes increasingly more rare the older you are.

I grew 6" as a college freshman. My wife's dad is 6'2 and her brothers are 6'2 and 6'5. My hooper son passed my 5'10 at 13 and I was calculating my NBA royalties to come when he caught my late growth spurt...Alas, he topped out at 6'1 in 11th grade :( Nice HS career tho.

5'4" to 5'10 as a college freshman. Yikes. thats's almost 10% change in a year.

Even Matt Lloyd confirmed, that RJ looks like he grew a lot. So there seems to be at least something serious behind it, beside the usual offseason bs talk.

Let's see, but if really grew close to a 6'7 height, then for now he is the player on the squad with the best potential of being a real difference maker. His speed and athleticism is really good, if his 3 pointer gets more consistent, this man could be a real weapon. We will see.

Otherwise he will be Derrick Jones 2.0, high athleticism guy with an awful jumper, like 9/10 Magic players.

He seems to have the attacking mentality and takes the challenge defensively...a lot to be excited about RJ (even if he's ONLY 6'6.5")

And Steve Clifford said Markelle was shooting 3s like he did at Washington. These guys are not going to go out and publicly embarrass these kids.

I am with you, though, if he is even 6'5, he could be dominant with his collection of skills. The more exciting thing to me was Matt Lloyd talking about his shooting, because we know he has been working hard last offseason and this one with Mike Miller. Eventually that hard work pays off.

Return to Orlando Magic
