ima go kawhi.
https://www.espn.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/128873/infographic-kawhi-leonard-and-lebron-james
Hes proven to be one of the all time greats defensively while also playing in the hardest era to actually play any defense. Hes one of the strongest guys in the nba. we know he doesnt get physically overwhelmed by lebrons strength. good hands to make the pass hard, and proven results. Ill kawhi in his prime.

What rules are we using? 2020 rules would make defense so useless that I'd just go for an offensive option to negate his impact as much as I could.

Kawhi Leonard. He was a defensive terror. Nowadays he isn't even half the defender he used to be though.

Butler was probably the best LeBron defender among LeBron's contemporaries.

People talk about Kawhi, but LeBron massacred the Spurs in those series.

I feel like Connie Hawkins would be an interesting pre-1980s choice to guard LeBron due to being like 6'8 and 225 pounds or whatever with long arms and great athleticism/strength.

LeBron game, strangely enough, could never really bully ball Kobe for some reason. Don't know if the stats would back me up, but every time they played one on one I didn't feel like LeBron was really in control. Obviously, he got the lobs and dunks like Giannis, but he couldn't get quite past him until the latter days. Not saying Kobe is the best player to guard him, but I think he deserved a mention.

Soooo did you watch any of the Bulls Heat series, or I don't know last year's finals? Butler is way to small for LeBron. Barbecue chicken every time.

I mean my post is supported by the evidence: https://fansided.com/2018/03/05/nylon-calculus-best-lebron-harden-durant-stopper/

Mainly talking about Butler in his athletic prime though.

Putt a bigger guy on him and make him shoot over. Make him take the contact. In the 90's those guys would be PF's, not SF's.

The problem is, those guys don't exist for most of his run. It's been a dead position for a while.

That post also says Wesley Matthews or Courtney Lee is just as good as Butler on stopping LeBron, which I totally disagree with and I'd give the benefit to Butler out of that group indeed. But what you're saying is that the best LeBron stopper, at least twice that I can vividly remember, was the defender on LeBron when he hit the game-winning shot. I remember the Bulls playoff game and the regular season Wolves game with the Cavs. I'm sorry that alone refrains me from saying he's the best stopper if that happens more than once  That meant LeBron couldn't care less if he was on him if he felt he had the best matchup to take that shot.

As a Kobe fan, i can tell you it was the total opposite. LeBron shut Kobe down in fourth quarters while also taking over on offense. I used to hate that mess.

This forum has too many good basketball minds for some of yall to still act like JJ was guarding lebron one on one.

I mean i dont even get why you would attempt this unless you didnt understand Dallas' zone. If you didnt, just say that. Theres no shame in it.
