Why #3 ? Should be #2
Hello Forum,
Pardon me if I'm missing something here....I'm scratching my head over this. Reports say the Magic are trying to move up to #3.
Who are we going to pick at #3....Mobley (why) and Suggs ( we have 3 guards)
Isn't the real "prize" Green? What on earth will we draft at #3. I'm guessing Suggs?
Why can't our GM's be bold and creative...give up #5, #8 and more players/picks for Green?

Because it takes 2 to trade. The Rockets already have 3 picks in this draft. They have no reason to consolidate when they are also looking for their future star. In this logic, why wouldn't the Magic just trade for 1 and take Cunningham?

Yeah, basically because they've probably talked to Houston and figured out a deal there isn't realistic.
I'm a big Suggs supporter so I don't mind. Also think Mobley is a great prospect even though I'd feel a bit weird about taking a big man.

I don't understand comments like this. If they are willing to make the types of trades they made at the deadline and are possibly willing to make a move to three where do any of the rumors say they didn't already make multiple "creative" offers to Houston?
It isn't as simple as saying I am going to get #2 whatever it takes. There has to be a willing trade partner.
You are right about one thing though, in my mind Green is definitely the prize. He is who I have wanted for a while.

Because they called Houston and found out they are taking Mobley at #2 so Green can be had with the #3 pick

with our front office being a steel trap, how much inside information about trying to trade up is anyone expecting? if its going to come out, its going to come from the other front offices they are talking to

I think we’re just connecting the dots. We are in a 2nd rebuild with this FO. Their seats could be getting warm. Weltman was not happy about getting the 5th pick. There’s no one on this roster that I see that’s an potential all star. JI might be the closest but if he stays healthy and even then...I don’t know if he is. There’s a sense of urgency. Maybe not to win right away but to get some talent, some momentum, some sign of going into a better direction.

Re: Why #3 ? Should be #2
Maybe our FO sees Cade/Mobley/Green all on the same tier. Why pay more to get to #2 when you can pay less and still get someone you're extremely high on....regardless of who it is. They may find more value in getting #3 and just taking who falls then paying the premium to make the choice to grab the player they think will fall to 3 anyway.
Just because YOU or I have our player rankings, doesn't mean the FO view it the same way. Ignore mocks.

is this the 2nd rebuild with this FO or the 1st? Because from my POV they came in and continued what was already started with the last front office. Jeff wanted to rebuild immediately, but probably had direction to keep building.
This is their first true REbuild.

This one.
Look any of these three can be a player to build a roster around. Will the roster be similar? Of course no.
At #3 it would almost certainly be Mobley. Can Orlando build around a potential Chris-Bosh type? Of course the answer is yes.

I believe so. We went from a non playoff team to one to back to a non playoff team again. We shipped off players and signed coach number 2. It’s just the first one never got as far as planned.

Those future CHI and DEN picks should be on the table in the interest of self-preservation. WeHam are not going to want to watch their replacements build their legacy on WeHam's chips. Let's go...

I don't know how these teams engage in trade talks but if offer a fair/good deal and another team is not interested, can't make a trade happen if the other team is not engaging. If the Magic called Houston, Houston probably has 0% interest in trading the pick, Houston probably sold on Green.

Maybe the FO gets Giannis vibes from Mobley. I certainly do.

Trading up rumor could also be a smokescreen. You engage with teams in the top 3 confirming you like prospects there but in reality you want them to select them becouse you have other prospects higher.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

Re: Why #3 ? Should be #2
The rumour we're looking to trade up to 3 didn't come from Orlando.
So, even if you accept it at face value, it only means we're exploring trades upward. That, if anything, reinforces the chance that we've talked also to Detroit and Houston.
Or, it could be a load of fabrication.

WeHamm has "talked" to Detroit and Houston, and the other 27 teams. These what-ifs rarely lead anywhere, but do help management gauge the directions other teams are going fowards (knowing what kinds of players are available is an addition-by-subtraction evaluation of opponent rosters).
