So, would Patty Mills come here for the MLE that we can offer? Can we turn Harris into the rest of the Aus national team to come off our bench???

I think we should build on our elite defense with
Embiid, Simmons and Thybulle frontcourt next year. Trade Tobias for a scorer.

Reminder, we got fleeced for Bridges, but we fleeced Boston for Thybulle. Let's keep Thybulle through his prime, DO NOT INCLUDE HIM IN ANY SIMMONS TRADES

The value was fine in that trade at the time.

I'm tired of ppl talking about losing Bridges but want to include Thybulle in Simmons' trades, after Embiid Thybulle is our next untouchable imo

Would you trade Ben and Thybulle for Lillard?

Lillard is my 3rd favorite player, I'm giving anyone and any draft pick for him minus Embiid and Thybulle

Agree that Thybulle is off limits. He's going to improve his shooting and that's really all he needs to do. People act like because he's 24 he can't improve as a shooter. He can. He'll never be a guy that scores 20 ppg taking opponents off the dribble, but he can and will become a high volume three point shooter much like Danny Green has become. In fact, I think he becomes a better version of Danny Green and that would be borderline all star in my opinion. If we trade him, I'm going to be very upset. Same with Maxey.

The trade was an extremely high floor Bridges who was ready to play decent minutes, for a 6'3 power forward with no guard skills in the hope he could somehow become something that he wasn't. Extremely high chance of a being bust - plus a future projected late first-round pick.

Bridges was a sure thing, Smith was a hit and hope. I'm not sure anyone other than Brett Brown would have made that trade.

Future projected late first round pick? The heat were a middling lottery team. Their best players were wade and josh richardson, and bam adebayo was nobody. The fact the heat had so little direction at that point is what made that draft pick so tantalizing. It was an a very good asset with great upside. I mean it literally ended up being the 18th pick, which is near the middle of the first round.

If you're attempting to analyze zhaire, why would you leave out his positive qualities? I never understood why everyone who didn't like the zhaire pick can't even pretend to be objective with him. Yeah, he was a 6'3 guard without many typical guard skills. Definitely a unique archetype, which made the pick riskier. But you're acting like smith was projected to go undrafted or something. There's a reason why he was a lottery pick on most big boards. He was a freak athlete with very good defense, good passing and excellent feel. He also had decent shooting indicators in college, and brett brown said that they really liked his jumper in workouts. If you only list out his deficiencies, sure, he looks pretty awful. But he was a solid, albeit atypical prospect.

Was he a bit high risk? Sure. Bridges was more of a sure thing. But plenty of "NBA ready" guys end up busting. Don't fall for hindsight bias here. If you wanted a "sure thing", just trade the pick for an NBA player.

While I'm at it, here's three more things that people say about this trade that bother me:

1. "The sixers were in win-now mode, they couldn't afford to develop a prospect!" Let's ignore that bridges was not as good in his first 2 years in the NBA as he is now. Joel was 24 and Ben was 21. Nothing wrong with taking a raw prospect when your 2 best players are this young, even if you're in "win-now" mode.

2. "Mikal was a perfect fit for the sixers!" What? We had Ben and Roco at that point. Don't get me wrong, mikal could fit on any team, but 3&D wing was pretty far down the list of needs for that team.

3. "He was a local prospect, and his mom worked for the team!" People who think that nepotism is a legitimate drafting strategy make my brain hurt.

10 for 16 and an unprotected first is not a fleecing. That's a normal trade.

Edit - deleted post - I think we should leave this thread to discussion of Matisse Thybulle, I've helped highjack it. Happy to continue in another thread.

Yeah, what was Abbie Normal was the near death experience and then the crash and burn of a guy who had flashed real talent in the NCAA tournament and was voted most athletic by his rookie draft class. I’m naturally biased, but I thought both he and Matisse had an interesting SL (which some of the national media had picked up on) and then he can’t get playing time, he’s in the G-League, he is going to get a chance in the bubble, but he’s got a bone bruise, and then…? My bad on that one!

Imagine if the coward Ben Simmons decided to play with the Australia team maybe he could develop some in game skills.

Name another 3x all-star with no skills. Also make sure they are all-nba 2nd and all-defense 1st. Thanks.

Simmoms was all nba 3rd team with the least smount of votes and only made it on a positional technicality as Middleton had more votes than him.

So Simmons effectively should be a 0 time all nba player.

Besides bums like drummond and deandre made all nba before. Making it once isnt special. Even Siakam and Randle made 2nd team before something Ben has never done.
