Enough about 5/8, Who do you want at 33?

Post#1 » by The Effect » Sun Jul 25, 2021 7:25 pm

At this point i doubt theres a single person on this board that isnt sick to death of hearing about Kuminga and barnes, or dreaming of a scenario where a good player falls to us or what trades could be made etc....

Lets have a little fun and talk about our 2nd rounder, which is close enough to being a third 1st rounder

Considering who our FO is, and with the way the team is currently made up (3 2nd year players, 2 1st rounder), theres roughly a 97.894% chance that this pick is either traded (sold!) or used on a stash, but just for fun, who are some of your guys top choices for our 33rd pick?

The weird part with talking about 2nd rounders in most drafts is that after the lotto, no one really knows if a player is going to go 25th or 50th, which is why i never really listen when people say "oh that guy has def moved in the 1st round", because then we would have 40 1st rounders every year

SO........Who do you guys like\want?

For me, my top choice at 33 is easy, if hes there, i really like the idea of drafting Miles McBride as a 3rd PG (or 2nd if fultz isnt healthy). Looking at espn\nba.com\cbs\bleacher report\ringer, ive seen him anywhere from 20 to the 2nd round (some only did 1st round and didnt have him in it)

Had a good season for WVU averaging 16/5/4 on 44/41/81 shooting, 6'2 with 6'9 wingspan ( :o ), good not great defender. More like Cole in that hes more of a scoring guy and doesnt really have the elite feel for the game as a PG, but for a 2nd rounder, still pretty good

The other guy id really like and think would fit it with what we NEED (aka shooting) is Joe Wieskamp. This is the guy who i can completely see going in the 1st and most people will just think hes a combine warrior, but will be surprised how good he is

6'7 205, 6'11 wingspan SG\SF, 15\6\2, 49/47/66 shooting (FT was down alot, was 86% last year on slightly higher attempts?). Great shooter, Pretty Athletic (42 inch vert), good attacking the basket, never been the featured guy with Garza there, but looks like he could fill that role?

Highlights

More detailed look at him on the court, very long video

Still figuring that out but unless the Magic get really good future assets or trade up into the first round with this pick, I think they should keep it.

I'd be more in favor of trying to trade up with it.

If they stay at #33, whomever is picked should be someone The Magic want to invest in and be on the typical 4-year Contract for a high second round pick.

All in all, I want to trade up into the First Round with this pick.

Good value at 33 to take a shot and let them play between the g league and our roster.
There could be a slide by a player:
McBride or Springer
We can get a big on a cheap deal:
Sharpe
Upside player:
Thor, Boston, Brown, Christopher
Shooting:
Wieskamp, Todd, Hurt
Or grab a solid rotation piece on a value deal:
Robinson-Earl
This year there is no reason to sell the pick, even if we are so young.

LOL I made this kind of thread weeks before. Sadly because everyone is too focused on our 5 and 8, a lot doesn't know how valuable this pick in this draft is.

Also, we only worked out 2 projected 2nd rounder "officially" right? Hurt and Lawson.

Anyway, I want a sweet-shooting big man for this pick. Guys like Huff, Petrusev or Garza. Matt Hurt would be ideal and the best shooter of them all but he is more of a PF than a big C.

I cant believe on the ESPN mock draft special, they have Jaden Springer at #30. If I was doing a mock draft, he'd be a lotto pick for me. There's going to be a steal available at #33, I just hope we dont just punt the pick or stash it just because we already have two rookies.

They had JT Thor in 2nd round. Would be amazing get. Someone is going to fall to #33

People will probably think I'm crazy, but I'd actually really hope to draft Luka Garza at 33. I think he can be a suprisingly good pick there and can be a solid contributor.

Not all of these guys will be available at 33, but I'd be interested in any of Jaden Springer, Quentin Grimes, Miles McBride, Jared Butler.

I haven’t really looked into the options around 33. I’m sure there will be a guy who slides that I like from the 1st round.

Names on my list are Vrenz Bleijenbergh, JT Thor, or especially Ayo/Springer if they slide that far (doubt it).

Miles McBride looks interesting. Haven’t watched much on him. Strange flick shot but it kept going on in his highlight reel, so must work. Looks to have quick feet to rise into a shot off the dribble quickly, too.

#33 and Denver/Bulls probably get the Magic to the mid-20s range. The Lakers at #22, the Clippers at #25, Denver at #26 and the Nets at #27 could be the kinds of teams interested in this sort of deal (save salaries and has improved assets when the current "run" runs out).

There is a boat load of back-up SGs in the 20s. Orlando would presumably be trading up for on of those. Joshua Primo is a guy I could be pleased with in Magic blue, for example.

I would not deal a future first to move up.

Terrence Ross is someone I'd consider moving to do that but probably would rather move him for a future first.

The Magic will get someone they could develop at #33.

as someone who watched almost all of Primo's games, what exactly is it about him that you would be "pleased" about?

It's really hard to assess a player that young. You have to look at his physical profile and coordination, then determine what you can develop him into. He wouldn't be a contributor in the NBA for a couple of years. He's 18 until Christmas.
