The initial draft we all had a 1000 to spend, that's why a lot of the contracts in the league are disproportionate. The league shifted to placing heavy value on first round picks and the extensions, that's why it's looking like some dynasties are in the making. The impending reset next year we'll see a lot more GM's be smarter with the contracts given out.
Honestly I still think the best players will go well above $400. People have found value with rotational pieces in the past. People still want to lock down a superstar they will have to pay a premium especially competing with teams with bird rights who give an extra year the team giving out 4 years will have to pay a premium to steal them away.
I mean look at Sabonis and Booker, two of the best examples we have at the moment. Smash ain't losing Siakam no matter what. It'll be interesting to see how crazy people get next year.
I think the only reason Sabonis got a reasonable deal is he's kinda a tweener where have we really found out where he is best suited to play? Is he a good enough defender to play the 5 consistently in the SIM. He is probably best suited for the 4 but teams like to play with space as well.
Booker was a situation where Remi traded a premium to get Booker and he wasn't going to lose him. It probably makes it really difficult to build a competitive roster unless he hits on a lot of these cheap guys young guys.
Then you have the S&T dynamic where teams even if they plan on not resigning them might try to extract some kind of asset if they are going to lose a star.
