Yeah, the original version I read didn't have the LA 1st, and felt light for Mem by about that amount.
With that extra first... I'm still pretty torn. I'm worried that this is the part of the year where everyone gets too excited about draft picks and forgets that, say, JV and Adams were both lotto picks themselves.
So I think Memphis paid about market price for moving up from #17 to #10, but I'm not sure they should have. That's still not "star" territory for most FOs in most drafts, and you need a bit of luck to get someone who'll develop into a good starter:
CJ McCollum
Austin Rivers
Jimmer Fredette
Paul GeorgeBrandon Jennings
Brook LopezSpencer Hawes
Mouhamed Saer Sene
Andrew Bynum
Luke Jackson
Jarvis Hayes
Caron Butler
Joe JohnsonNo all-stars since George, one very good starter in Bridges and two potential starters in Winslow (still!) and Reddish.
As for the Adams/JV swap... #10 is the best asset in the deal, but JV is definitely the best player. Adams is a solid replacement, but I'm not sure we should be collecting late firsts and higher seconds in return for downgrading a core part of the team.
Adams and Bledsoe are both guys who could play significantly better in news digs, or either or both could be starting down an age-related decline. I'm happy with both of them as rotation guys, but we probably need to move Tyus if we're keeping an incredibly expensive backup PG and an undersized wing in Melton.
Seems like a big bet by the Grizzlies FO on their ability to make an above-average pick at #10...
