Continue Here. Didn't include trade down in the poll options because it doesn't really make sense with the picks we have.

It’s really weird to me that we’d want to trade up for a 3&d guy. I like Murphy a lot but 2 first for him is really steep. It really only makes sense if they Knicks don’t think there’s nba players after him and that just doesn’t seem possible.

The age things gets so overrated here. Especially since most of yall are over 25 and are afraid to squat to ass to grass or step in a boxing ring. We really good judge Duarte for entering the NBA late? So did Ginobili and many others. It's about what you do in those seasons. Duarte may not have a 20 year career but he certainly can play 10-13 seasons. He gives us what Frank does defensively without the phobia to score the ball. CD shoots 70% inside. He isn't just a 3pt shooter. Compared to the 1st rounders he is top in scoring without being assisted.
It would be a great pick because we aren't rebuilding. A younger player is necessary when we draft and stash.
Toppin is just a weird case because he isn't lateral or has a long stride you would expect from a 6"8 PF. But the Toppin pick should scare us away. Theres plenty of 19 year olds available in the 21st and 32nd pick. The Chris Duarte slander ends here. Man may be orange and blue in a few days.
Trey Murphy is bigger and more athletic than Duarte, while being a more versatile defender. I'd rather have him over Duarte
Blasphemy.
Where did you see Murphy play defense?
"Weaknesses: Needs to gain more confidence in his abilities and become a more aggressive athlete … Does not rebound the ball particularly well despite his size advantage … Could use more aggressiveness and assertiveness to become more effective … At times, doesn’t appear to understand what he’s capable of … Does not track the ball well off the rim, resulting in poor positioning for rebounds … Not a big assist guy, doesn’t create many looks for himself or his teammates … Many times doesn’t even look at the rim on the catch, missing opportunities to take an open shot … Often tries to drive laterally, but doesn’t have the handles or quickness for that to be effective for him … Drives looking primarily to pass, particularly to perimeter players spotting up … … Should look to play with more energy at all times … Gets pushed around by smaller players on a regular basis … Doesn’t always cut with the urgency needed to get open … Tends to give too much room defensively on the perimeter … Despite giving space, is still prone to getting beat off the bounce by opposing wings because he gets too high of a center of gravity … May need to refine his mechanics to speed up his release on his jumpshot, as he sort of brings the ball down beside his head prior to shooting … Can work on becoming a more vocal leader … Perimeter skills are a work in progress. Can stand to improve as a ball handler and passer …"
1. Murphy is very weak. He gets pushed around by guards.
2. Calling Murphy a "versatile" defender because you assume so based on what? Hes 6"8 with a 7 foot wing span? Just because you have the body to defend doesnt mean you have the motor or awareness to do so.
3. Athleticism theory is crazy. Murphy doesnt attack the rim and he's spent his entire career at Virginia as a spot up shooter with limited handles, passing or slashing ability. He also doesn't rebound.
Please do me a solid and break down to me how Murphys athleticism is real to you beyond dunks. We've seen Kevin Knox show athleticism. But when does it come to play ? How does Murphy impact the game with his athleticism when he's SOFT and shys away from contact ? This is like calling Tim Thomas athletic but knowing his athleticism doesnt translate to productive.
Murphy has the same exact problem Kevin Knox and Toppin have. They are not aiming to slash or take it to the basket when they're open. They hesitate and shy away from a trip to the FT line.
Read this and explain how this would translate into the NBA?
"Drives looking primarily to pass, particularly to perimeter players spotting up … Should look to play with more energy at all times …"
So you're okay with oversaturing this roster with a passive wing player when we already have Knox and Toppin? I'm not saying Knox or Toppin are better prospects. Murphys shooting is legit. But in game he will be easily exposed in traffic because he has weak handles, isn't aggressive or PHYSICAL. We've seen this too many times with Knox and Toppin. Underwhelming in intangibles and motor.
Duarte shoots 52% from the field, 42% from 3 and 71% at the RIM, while scoring more than 17 points per game.
Duarte true three-level scorer. Murphy does not have a slashing game. Duarte is superior at absorbing contact and not being hesitant on offense. Age is age but you cant teach aggression.
Duarte FTA = 3.6 per 40
Murphy FTA = 2.2 per 40
Duarte is a superior defender...its not close. Versatile ? If Murphy doesnt bulk up, he already gets pushed by guards and cant stay in front of them. I think you're making things up because every fan has a "favorite" prospect. There isn't no basis that Murphy is superior over Duarte right now. Duarte 3 years older but that isn't a problem for us. Knicks time table is to compete now. We've past the rebuilding stage.
We are PAST investing stock in non aggressive wing players. We have Knox and Toppin. We can replace them with a better shooter in Murphy but we will continue to have the same problem. Murphy will not take the ball away from Randle when Randle starts chucking contested mid range shots. Stretching the floor is great but Duarte is arguably one of the best shooters and scorers in this draft. He can have Brogdon impact right away while Murphy hangs on the perimeter to get open and gets pushed around by smaller players.
You guys get lost in the hype from workout rumors and build an infactuation with players who share similar weaknesses that our current bust picks have. This is why Knicks will never be a good drafting team. We dont learn from our mistakes. Murphy faaaaaaaaaaar from a sure thing. He can easily fall out and get lost on a team who doesnt develop him right. Murphy is 21, but already had 3 seasons in Virginia to be more than a spot up shooter. He can't pass, slash or hold down smaller players. I'm not convinced Murphy is laterally superior to Duarte also. Duarte is a hawk on defense and has extremely quick hands. Something we dont have outside of Nerlens Noel.

I must say from players projected 10-25 I really don’t think there’s an option that’s truly an option I’d hate. Obviously I have my preferences just like everyone else but I think they would have to be doing some wild stuff to have a pick at 19 and/or 21 that is universally seen as a reach

This is my favorite player in this draft. Doesn't mean I'd take him 1st overall (or even top 3) but he is the guy I like the most. I would strongly consider taking him at no.4 overall (which apparently the Raptors are actually considering). 6'9" 7'3" wingspan uber athletic and powerful point forward that can defend any position and IMHO has a better offensive game than he's shown due to the needs of his team this past season.

Re: Draft thread #5
I dont like the idea to trade up to get a player in the early teens. Its a very steep price to get a player on the same level. If we stand pat, we can get 2 players instead of one. Only if someone very good player drops like Boukinght or Mitchell.
Depending on the price, trading out to get a good player like Sexton or Grant would be great. Ingram is a reach.

His lack of scoring ability and no jumper is what scares me. Reminds me of Ben Simmons in the playoffs…I could be wrong though

IMO he's stronger and more explosive than Simmons. Simmon's always seemed like a puss to me TBQH. I don't get the sense that Barnes is that. Barnes to me is a more competitive player. Shooting is a problem but I don't think he'll have a problem putting the ball on the floor and creating off of it.

He does look like quite the physical specimen with a lot of athleticism. If his jumper and handles improves he should be pretty good. It’s a big if though imo.
I think the Knicks actually met with him before the combine. Wonder if we were targeting him

If the Knicks don’t walk away from this draft with at least one perimeter player that can create their own shot, I swear to god I’m gonna start slapping random people on the street like Bernie Mac

I don’t know how, or even if it’s possible but I hope the Knicks can move up and grab Franz Wagner…. He might slide.

Murphy isn't really a movement shooter like that though. I def can see why the Knicks like Duarte the most cuz he's more dynamic of a player

Not much talk about Ayo Dosunmo but he’s like a Thibs scoring guard. We worked him out recently too. Wouldn’t be surprised if we took him
