I love the money excuse. Everyone knows that a team can spend money and still suck, look at the Orioles. And the Brewers big off-season signing hasn't been very impressive either. I think everyone will agree that the Cubs didn't spend their money very wisely. A large portion of their spending was used to keep their own player, A-Ram. Lilly and DeRosa have been good signings, both have played better than I expected but still are vastly overpaid. And as much as I love Soriano, he has underperformed all year. Regardless, their payroll was around $100 million at the start of the season.
I can't fault the Brewers for doing it the right way, unfortunately, had they signed a manager such as Pinella, they would be running away with this division.
In about 3 years we will see what the Brewers decide to really do with their payroll with all their rookies up for arbitration and free agency. $70 million won't cut it with this talent.
