I think he would need to get fully guaranteed in order to be used to match, even with where we are in the offseason. Could be wrong though.

Stein reporting Dallas' plan is to sign Lowry and retain THJ. Which means dumping quite a bit of money or the easier version is to work a S&T with Toronto if he takes their offer. And I'm going to assume to lure him they need to be high bid. So structure looks like:

Kleber
Richardson
WCS
25 1st(lotto protected for 3 years, 2 2nds)

Or

Same players, but Dallas uses 2nds/cash to dump Richardson/WCS on cap/exception teams and Toronto takes Maxi as their incentive?

OR

same players, Dallas uses 2nds/cash to dump Richardson/WCS, finds a cap/exception team to give small incentive for Kleber which goes to Toronto who gets a big TPE/small incentive in Kleber deal.

Something else I'm missing?

Call me crazy, but I could see OKC taking Richardson for free.

Hood smart to do that because otherwise he's never seeing that money obviously. Toronto smart to keep a bit of flexibility though I'd be surprised if they actually used him to add salary barring another major move.

I would be pretty surprised if Richardson was negative value that took incentive to take. But it could look like a 3 teamer.

Philly version is easiest and most absurd but:

#28 and George Hill to OKC, Richardson to Philly, fake 2nd to Dallas. Agreed to before draft., completed after season rolls over so no issues with Hill back to OKC.

OKC gets a 1st for taking 10m... of a player they absolutely will flip for value later.
Dallas gets raw cap space.
Philly gets a solid defender {in case they are down an all NBA 1st team defender at that time}

I think if this is true, he opts out. Which ironically makes it harder for Dallas to achieve their goal of Lowry plus THJ.

But if he opts in, I go by the old adage he wouldn't have opted in if there was something better for him so he's de facto a negative contract of some amount so I'm prepared for Dallas to have to give a minor incentive.

Would be thrilled to be wrong about all of this and have him opt in and Dallas be able to move him without paying to gain more spending power/have more options.

But that's how I arrived there.

The OKC offer for #1 is crazy to me. If I'm Weaver I take that and run...or maybe GMs think Cade is even more of the real deal that we suspect? I mean, I think he is going to be a perennial all-star, but so is SGA, and I'm not sure I see a future MVP.

No. Under the CBA, if you want to trade someone for salary matching purposes, you must guarantee at least enough of his salary to make the trade work.
