Yeah, there's a reason the Nets paying Joe Harris isn't looked on the same as the Wiz paying Bertans.god shammgod wrote:K-DOT wrote:I just don't know about giving a 3-D guy long term money, especially when he's not really a great defender (Reggie was a really good team defender, but not the type you could just stick on a star wing every night) and whose 3pt shooting kind of fluctuates. Last 5 years he's shot 38, 45, 38, 33, and 41 percent, and while that's still good for just under 40% overall, you need consistency
I do want him back, but I don't want to give him a lot of money, and I don't want to do it for more than 2, maybe 3 years.

we'll miss him if we don't replace him but so what ? we don't have enough actual talent to start paying the pieces around them.

Reggie isn’t a Jrue Holiday level defender, but he is in that next level of defender where you are comfortable with him guarding a player and he will make their life difficult.
He’s been pretty consistently around 40% for every team he played for except with the Lakers (19 games played) and last season with us (30 games played, when he was coming back from an injury).
Yeah he will be on and off from game to game, but that’s every shooter.
We should also consider that this is the biggest role he has ever had, he consistently got better throughout the season, and developed great chemistry with Randle and the team.
I don’t want to overpay but 30 million over 3 years would be a steal for us.

exactly. timing is one of the most important aspects of roster building. he's worth the 10 mill a year but it's not time for us to give it to him.

i hear y'all, but $10m really isn't a ton for a key rotation piece. especially if you are going to be spending otherwise. knicks could tie this money up into value salaries without using picks and still have a good amount of assets to be active in the trade market as we get better.
if we weren't doing anything else, i'd probably not focus on bully like this. but we kind of have something to move forward with that he could be a good part of. there's value in the known veteran commodity. would def rather keep bullock than spend double on a comparable player.
i'd be against bringing him back if we didn't take the surprising steps we did.
K-DOT: my last thought/defense of bullock is that 2 of the seasons you pointed out in his shooting stats were impacted by back injury and recovery. this season was his first healthy season in a while. there's something about his relationship with the org. we gave him the opportunity to rehab on payroll instead of as a free agent trying to make it back into the league. i think he's made good on that investment and will continue to be part of the heart of the team.

All that being said, I would pay more for a player who can put the ball on the floor a little bit.
Reggie was erased from the playoffs because he's a standstill shooter who needs his offense spoonfed to him.

Is this a serious question?
4 years $20 million is a steal for those guys. They will get much more than that.

agreed. if we're talking about $20m for an improvement on bullock, for sure. i don't think we need to keep him just because. if there's nothing better, i just think he remains a good value and worthwhile impact player at that price point.

Reggie at $10M per for 3 years seems like a contract that you end up trading to LA and getting a late 1st if we don't need him.
Oubre feels more like a Hardaway contract where maybe he will get better but it will happen after we need to attach an asset to get rid of him after bumming it up in NY for a year.
Duncan Robinson at $20million? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Trent Jr is 22. He’s a year older than Barrett folks. I’d give him close to 20 mil. He has a good chance of growing into that contract.
Trade 19, Knox, Obi, Future 2 for Sexton. Bring back Taj, Rose.
Draft Isaiah Jackson at 21, Duece McBride at 32.
Obviously add some more depth but
G Rose - IQ - McBride
G Sexton - Trent
F Barrett - Trent
F Randle - FA
C Mitch - Taj - Jackson

Just IMO Knicks plan at PG:
1) Lillard-we know complications with trade
2) CP3-obvious return to Suns, knicks could offer a 3rd year to entice
3) Lowry-same offer as CP3 but will have to overpay for his age, but worth it
4) sexton-CAA ties
5) ball-RFA will have to overpay

It's also a very tradeable deal. Knicks haven't had a lot of those mid level value deals for wings in previous years. Trade wise he becomes a helpful connector of salaries down the line.
I prefer a 2 year slight overpay to a full 3 years though. Something like 2/26 > 3/34 for me just because if you need to move it next year in FA it becomes a much easier piece to move. It also mitigates some injury risk long term just in case his back issues creep back up or something. If someone gives him 4 years then it's been nice knowing you Reg
