OT: Giants 2021
The MLB boards are mostly dead.
Are there Giants fans here?
To start it off, they're in good position but I think they could acquire players to help the team. Dodgers and Padres are likely to be busy by the July 30 trade deadline.
Here's a post about potential trades.

Re: OT: Giants 2021
I went to the game last night. We moved down to the field level about a dozen rows behind the Giants dugout at the beginning of the 9th inning. The game had been largely uneventful for the last 7 innings and you could tell the ushers had lost interest in checking tickets. Couldn't have turned out better. All my Dodger fan friends were disgusted with me.
The hottest of takes...

I love going to live games. I moved to Texas a while back and now only get to go to minor league games much.

You may have noticed I tried to poke the RealGM Giants topic a few times. Yeah, I'm a Giants fan since forever. Having a wonderful year, and Zaidi-ball rules.
But we do need some more relief pitching.

I think we need a closer. McGee blew so many games early on. The thing is, i dont want to mortgage the future with Zs drafts.

Re: OT: Giants 2021
As the article pointed out, they have some key free agents, including maybe their top 2 or 3 starters.
So they may not be as competitive next year, unless they pay out big money for Gausman and Desclafani.
Unless a couple of their prospects are ready to take key roster spots next year, they may fall back.
And as noted, there's big difference between getting a WC spot and winning the division as far as prospects.
Pitching has been good and they lead the NL in HRs. However there's a lot of low average batters. So it's a feast or famine offense.
They've been successful with pitching and just enough key HRs. I don't know if that formula is sustainable in the playoffs. Cardinals have handled them pretty well. I think Giants have done okay vs. Dodgers and Padres though.
They haven't played a lot of the AL leaders yet.
Nor the Brewers, currently leading the NL Central.

Hoping someone can send Farhan the phone number for Craig Kimbrel's agent.

Re: OT: Giants 2021
Amen on Kimbrel.
As far as the batting averages, the whole league's down this year -- hence the sticky-substances freak out -- but the Giants' best hitters are pulling theirs up as the season goes on. I'm not worried about their run production -- they've got a lot of good hitters as opposed to a couple of great ones, so they're less likely to slump as a team -- but I do worry about our bullpen, esp. the closer slot. McGee throws almost nothing but fastballs, which can be pretty scary in a one-run game, and Rogers is useless when he can't hit his spots because when he has to groove one it's going about seventy-five miles an hour, batting practice speed.
They definitely need a Kimbrel or similar proven ninth-inning guy, IMO, and move McGee and Rogers back to the 7th/8th.
Moronta may also help when he's back in the next couple of weeks. But I REALLY wouldn't want to go into playoffs (assuming we get there) with our current closing situation. Just feels like asking for heartbreak, and I'm still not over 2016. (Or 2002, or 1989, or lots of other things, but that's what happens when you're a lifelong fan.)

Melo and amare should thrive in this offense. If Jeremy Tyler and cole Aldridge looked that good in summer league then us knick fans have a lot to be excited about. Make room for all the bandwagoners when we take off

Re: OT: Giants 2021
Love Lamonte. He's been great.
Watching that Dodgers series, they definitely have a sniff of "team of destiny" about them this year. Reminds me a bit of 2010 -- nice combination of SF vets and newcomers, and they take turns producing. Like that team, I have learned not to give up when they trail late, even to good teams. If we can prop up the bullpen just a little bit this year, I'll worry about next year . . . next year.

Agree, love his eye at the plate and his versatility in the field. Just wish he could hit even a little bit against lefties.

It’s a strange thing, I didn’t realize until recently they don’t really have much timely hitting. They’re well in the bottom half for RISP, and I’m surprised how many guys are hitting in the mid-.200s overall. Definitely feast or famine, but they find a way to win.
Pleasant surprise this year, just enjoying the ride to see how far they go.

Giants grind out another close win over the Dodgers.
Big break on the error by Bellinger.
These kinds of wins, getting some breaks, has kind of a team of destiny feel to them.

That is what had been worrying me the most for a good while now, despite their success. I keep getting worried that above average pitchers who can shut down the home runs will reduce Giants offense to shreds.
The talk is starting pitcher, closer and the right handed bat. Sure I'd have liked to get all three of Scherzer, Kimbrel and Bryant but of course it is unrealistic. So I'd put them in the order of pressing need. From starting pitcher being least pressing to the hitter being most pressing. Again, that is as of this moment. Can the hitters on the way back from the injured list can take care of this need? If yes, I'd sure would like to get nails out closer. Imagine shortening the game to 6 innings with the Giants starting pithing already on board. Rogers, McGee and Kimbrel for the 7th trough 9th. Remember the Giants and KC in 2012-2014 basically shortening the game to 6 innings with their bullpens.

Yeah. Our 2014 closer, Casilla, didn't even get a save in the Series. The only one he could have gotten was Bumgarner's game 7, and nobody was going to pry him off the mound.

Starting pitching matters more in the playoffs, but getting a reliable closer would make the pen much stronger and it's the pen that wins the close games.

Re: OT: Giants 2021
So Scherzer wants to come to the west coast. Its not a bullpen but it is big ticket and would cost some prospects. Thoughts?
