Draft Day Thread
This is where we can comment about all the picks as they happen, as well as draft-day trades, etc.
I have to say that having the Jazz picking so late, as well as the potential for them to trade the pick away to shed salary really impacted my interest in this draft. I hope we manage to still have a good draft. Please, no more trading away picks!

The real decision the Jazz FO is making is between Continuity, Cap Flexibility, and Cash Considerations.

I, for one, am excited to welcome our shiny new cash considerations to the team.

Re: Draft Day Thread
Unfortunately I'm a little depressed knowing that we are likely to see another wasted draft night where we trade our pick. This time to dump Favors. I can't even overstate just how high my hatred of Dennis Lindsey is for putting us in this position. The guy is such a piece of crap. The last 2 offseasons have been complete disasters and this could be the worst of all of them because those contracts and moves are coming back to haunt us even more.

Philly just paid $2M for the #53 pick? Damn that seems a bit pricey

Especially when they don't even know what guys will be there. This just shows the value though of the 2nd rd picks that Lindsey has been so reckless with.D Rog wrote:Philly just paid $2M for the #53 pick? Damn that seems a bit pricey

What do you think the percentage is of us trading the pick before we even know who slips to 30? My guess is 90%.

Ingles is cooked.

I looked up the Jazz' future 2nd picks. DL has traded/given away the following 2nds:
2021
2022
2023
2024
2027
Fortunately, only the 2022 first round pick has been traded.

Re: Draft Day Thread
I've seen rumor that the Jazz trade Ingles and #30 for Kuzma and #22 (I would prefer dealing Bogey instead).
Although that seems unlikely given the Lakers preffered trade targets using Kuzma as salary filler, if that were to happen, how do the Jazz unload Favors?

If the jazz trade Ingles for Kuz and 22 then they better not be including 30 as well.SoCalJazzFan wrote:I've seen rumor that the Jazz trade Ingles and #30 for Kuzma and #22 (I would prefer dealing Bogey instead).

Really pricey considering NO has 3 ealier picks in the 2nd round in addition to a FRP. Surely, they aren't going to use all of those.

Re: Draft Day Thread
With the Jazz hard capped, no first round pick next year, and zero second round picks till 2025, if they give 30 away to dump Favors their prospects of improving over the next few years seems rather dim. I'd imagine that's not the first impression new ownership & management would prefer to make on the fan base and it's superstar in the making– spendthrifting over winning.
I think there is an imperative at work here to balance the roster financially and competitively, and actually improve over the next few seasons. Sure, a step back for a season or two may be necessary as new players develop after losing seasoned vets, but by the time Mitchell's option looms the team must be firmly in title contention AND on an upward trajectory. At least, that should be the mandate from ownership to management. And that commitment should be clearly demonstrated through every decision made in the meantime.
So I'm hoping to see Bogey and/or Ingles packaged with 30 and Favors in a trade which returns a higher pick and young guy who can play a bit, but also has upside. Losing our pick for nothing as the team just gets older represents more of the same failed management philosophy. And ensures similar or worse results when the games actually matter.

^^ Tony said the Jazz really liked Grimes before working him out. Is that the player? He could be Royce O'Neill with much better offense- not bad for the 30th pick.

In his latest podcast Locke had a theme for the podcast "what would be a win for the Jazz on draft night" and he was emphatic that trading the pick to dump salary is best case scenario for us because pick no.30 rarely helps you right away.

The player that might fall to #30 is either Jaden Springer or Jalen Johnson. Don't ask me how on Johnson.

He's been pushing this so I wouldn't be surprised, also wouldn't be surprised if we use Ingles or Bogey to get another pick.

Tony Jones has inside sources with the Jazz, including Derrick Favors.
Chad Ford is close to Tony Jones.
David Thorpe is close to Chad Ford, former ESPN colleagues.
Jazz are tight-lipped about deals, and they have a good relationship with both the Knicks and Pacers.

If Jalen Johnson drops to us, that would be amazing.
