How The Heat Go Back To Becoming A Championship Team Part 2

Post#1 » by Feel_the_Heat15 » Sun Jul 25, 2021 5:29 pm

Thread I created 3 years back: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=1714731

We couldn't get Lillard or Giannis mainly because they both signed extensions but we did get Butler. I think acquiring a star through free agency is out of the question for this team. If we want to add a star, it'll have to be through a trade and the odds of it happening this year are slim unless you consider Collin Sexton a star.

Our greatest, non-star assets for a big trade would be Herro, Achiuwa, Okpala and future picks(and maybe Robinson). The Heat could trade Okpala to OKC to convince OKC to remove the protections on our 2023 pick. We'd then be able to trade our 2025 and 2027 FRPs+swap 2024 and 2028 FRPs. If Herro improves he becomes a massive trade chip and Achiuwa has some value.

Not really seeing any avenues that would get us there. Our biggest chance was that fluke orlando bubble but when we faced a team with real superstars, we came up short. In this league your only as good as your superstars and sadly, Jimmy & Bam ain’t gonna cut it. The best course of action is to trade Jimmy for a rebuilding package, picks and a young player or two with all star potential. Something like the Warriors works for both teams.

Tank this season land a top two pick and go from there. There’s no one available that puts us in contention, and even in pipe dream scenarios where we get Dame or Beal, we still wouldn’t be favored.

It sucks to hear, but I been saying it since Lebron left, time to build through draft, time to draft our next Wade, our T. Young our Luka. Instead we just keep that treadmill on high. Crazy thing is, that foolish plan almost, ALMOST worked lol. But the team in our way had 2 top 5 players and we had zip zero and got spanked. That flukey covid season probably set this franchise back a few more years, giving Riley false hope and further chasing this fairy tale ending.

Tbf though, I honestly feel we could've beaten them if Goran and Bam were healthy. I still feel we were the best team in the bubble, and health willing, may have taken it.

Hell, we weren't that far off. Got it to Game 6 and got spanked, but we almost took Game 4 in that series. That was the difference maker. Get that game and it's on.

The avenue that'd take us there is a trade. The team can be improved, the hardest part was drafting a star. You don't magically become a championship contender after being bad for 2 or 3 years. Stars become available for trade like every season. You're making this seem completely hopeless when it's the exact opposite.

Get a star scoring wing/point (Beal, Lillard) find a starting veteran center, hope your young players make jumps in skills this offseason.
