We could have drafted him at #12 and I would have been happier..........

Looks like an excellent second round pick. The Spurs need the shooting, everyone knows. He has enough height to play SF, and they should be able to train him to be a competent defender.

Here are a couple blind resumes for Joe and a few other players in their final seasons in college:

Player A: 9.2 pts, 2.4 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 59.5% FG, 38.4% 3PT

Player B: 14.8 pts, 5 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 60.5% FG, 41.7% 3PT

Player C: 19.5 pts, 5.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 52.5% FG, 43.8% 3PT

Joe: 14.8 pts, 5.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 49.1% FG, 46.2% 3PT

All three players listed above are role players in the NBA and their role is to put the ball in the basket from behind the arc at an efficient rate. Player A is Duncan Robinson himself, while Player B is Kevin Huerter and Player C is Luke Kennard. Duncan is a dream role player next to Ja Morant as a shooter, while Huerter and Kennard have been player comps for Wieskamp heading into this draft.

I actually wonder if he's quick enough for NBA defenders. If he develops into either of the three comparisons, everything's good. Can't wait to see if he cracks the rotation/makes a name for himself.

A couple of points: Joe fills an obvious 3-efficiency need and instantly becomes our most efficient 3 shooter. And Primo is next after him. But Wieskamp also posted a top five vertical at the Combine, so he's got hops that will surprise people, and he's quick in transition, too.

The youngest / newest group consists of Tre, Lonnie, Joshua, Joe, Luka. It'll be interesting to see how their personalities and games come together:

To get his shots away cleanly, you mean? Shouldn’t be a problem with the Spurs. They’ve been getting clean looks for Patty for years. Wieskamp is half a foot taller, jumps well, and has a high release. If a defender may give him a problem, bring Poeltl out to set a screen. Poeltl is excellent at that, and from what I’ve been able to learn, Wieskamp is good with a screen.

If the Spurs have trouble getting clear shots for him, it will be a very surprising and unexpected problem.

I just stopped by to congratulate you on the Joe Weiskamp pick. I spent a lot of time in Iowa last year, and I got to see a lot of Joe.

I was amused to see that he had been thinking about the Spurs, because I thought the exact same thing since November. Weiskamp is a tremendous shooter with easy NBA range and more. He has surprising athleticism. But the thing that I liked best about him was he was always making smart plays. He has been preparing for the NBA all his life (he’s the state of Iowa’s all time leading high school scorer), and you can see he’s learned what to do in every situation. He has athleticism, but he makes the easy play if that’s what is going to score. He is smart.

When I watched him last winter, the player he reminded me of was a poor man’s Sean Elliot. As I remember him, Elliot wasn’t the NBA best in any skill, but he was bad at nothing, and he was a good guy that always worked hard and was a smart player. I think this is the kind of kid Joe is, and hopefully he can become something good for you.

Hello shrink, thank you! Good to hear about close-up insights into his game, thanks. I think Joe will surprise people with what he can do outside of scoring. Looking forward to Joe creating his own Memorial Day Miracle moments!
