Is it safe to assume that juhann is a draft amd stash?
I admittedly knew nothing of him but seems like he is super raw.

I wont pretend to still have been watching the draft by time we picked, but looking this morning I have 4 or 5 guys that I personally liked as being available to pick when we selected. I never even heard of this guy at all.
Gray, Boston, Lewis, Wiggins, Sims

Feel like this pick was completely a danny ainge pick all the way. Makes sense I guess because Brad wouldn't have had much time to properly scout.

Also, do not have faith in whoever the scouts are on this team.

Seems like a Romeo Langford type prospect to me.

Very long. Many reports say he's super athletic but the highlights I'm seeing aren't really showing that. I think his length, much like Langford, makes him seem more athletic because he does have some highlight reel dunks. Certainly very strong.

His FT shooting worries me especially considering he seems like a guy that will need to live at the line to be effective. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I definitely preferred others who were still available when we picked like Boston and Cooper and Sims but it's hard to be super critical of the pick considering how little there is to know about him at this point.

The pick reeks of Ainge.

Long arms, shows flashes as a defender, no especially athletic, cannot shoot, not a playmaker.

He is a poor mans Romeo at this point in time. Perhaps in a year or 2 he can be a replacement, but I dont even think he has the impact of Carson Edwards at this point.
But, I am certainly no scout.

I think Juhann is in fact a Romeo replacement and I would not be surprised to see Romeo gone in the near future. If the decision has been made to retain Brown and Smart, Langford probably has the most trade value of anyone on the roster, and he's approaching his restricted free agency year.

I also like the Sam Hauser signing. I wouldn't have been disappointed if he had been taken at #45.

cannot shoot? Begarin's TS% last yr was 55%. Guessing you would have rather taken BJ Boston who had a TS% of 44%, lol. Begarin is only 18 but improving his shot rapidly. In his last 11 games (including the 2 at the G-league elite camp right before the draft) he shot 23/47 from 3 (48.9%).

Not a playmaker? He had an assist rate of 18.3% which is very high for a non-PG, especially considering his modest usage rate of 22.7%. Compare that to BJ Boston who had a much lower assist rate of 11.1% on a higher usage rate of 23%. Begarin makes some great passes in this video:

I don't see much of a Langford comparison. Begarin is a much better shooter, Begarin is 2 inches taller, much faster, better ball handling, more assertive on offense, better motor, better toughness, etc.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Romeo is 2 inches taller than Juhann.
Juhanns winspan in an inch or so longer than Romeos

Juhann is thicker than Romeo

Romeo has better athletecism
Romeo played against better competition by a long rate

Romeo has played good enough to be on an nba roster, Juhann has not played in even the A league in france. Right now Juhan is a poor mans version of whatever comparision you want to make.

A common knock against Juhann is his shooting and straight line driving on offense. So Im not talking out of school here. Perhaps he has completely remedied all of that in the last 10 games, I dont know. And honestly its pretty moot at this point in time.

I do not mind us swinging for the fence here, better to take a project at 45 than some of our previous picks where you could tell the guy will never be an NBA player. And he also has size and length for his position.

But he would have to make huge strides to make it to the NBA, IMO. He played in French B league, guys like Sengun and Garuba who are the same age played against much, much better competition... So, he is far away from contributing but I am hoping he can make a leap this year playing in top french league...

lol Romeo is not 2 inches taller, he's 6'4" and Begarin is 6'6".

Romeo better athleticism, eh, maybe a tiny bit but it's debatable - Begarin is definitely faster, has more burst, more explosive, both in the half court and in the open floor. You literally just said a few posts up on the page that you didn't even know who he was, so how can you say "a common knock is his shooting" ? I just told you he had a TS% of 55% last season and shot 49% from 3 over his last 11 games. maybe that used to be the knock on him but clearly he's improved his shot and is still only 18 yrs old so still lots of room to develop:

Obviously Romeo has played against better competition, he's in the NBA lol. I'm not saying Begarin is gonna replace Romeo. I'm saying we stash Begarin overseas for 1 (maybe 2) yrs and then at that point we bring him over - if Begarin develops into a legit dude who's ready to contribute to the C's, I'm sure by that time in a yr or 2 either Romeo/Nesmith/Fournier is gone by that time but we'll see..

As for Boston, I know he had a disastrous year at Kentucky but I can see his feel for the game when I watch him play and I think in the right system he has a super high ceiling.

Cooper is a binky but I get his defense is a problem. I just think his speed and playmaking are going to make him a real player. He would have been an instant shot of adrenaline.

Well, to answer the question about the shooting, I read a bit up on the kid this morning in between talking here. And I did acknowledge that, based on what you posted, he may have fixed his shot.

About the heights, that is weird, nba draftroom has romeo as 6foot6 and nba.com and drafrtoom has Juhann at 6foot4.

I dont hate on the pick at all, dont mean to come off like it. Was just surprised as I saw nothing of him in any articles written anywhere leading up to draft. Never heard about workouts with the team with him. Nothing.

And it still does seem like a danny pick. But maybe this kid is the next Dort or something and just immediately expolodes onto the scene. My god if he can perform in the NBA the same as he looks in his highlight videos against the french b league I will be pretty damn giddey and would look to sign and trade fournier now.

Feel like this pick was completely a danny ainge pick all the way. Makes sense I guess because Brad wouldn't have had much time to properly scout.

Also, do not have faith in whoever the scouts are on this team.

Austin kind of smirked in his mini-presser when he said that with the Brad change coming so quickly Brad didn't really have time to affect the process. But a long and switchable, defensive-oriented guard who doesn't have to develop on the team bench seems like a Brad pick at this point too.

Giant wingspan, 8-9 standing reach and only 18. Seems like a worthy flier at least

Begarin was still playing against grown men getting paid to play professionally. May have been the B League, but that's why we're gonna stash him overseas for a yr (maybe 2) before brining him over.

Garuba is 19, so a yr older than Begarin. Sengun is the exception, not the rule - you say that as if europe is loaded with superstar 18 yr olds dominating the highest competition levels in Europe and Begarin is some bum - not the case. Hell, even the league Sengun played in was good but definitely not one of the most competitive leagues in Europe, from what I've heard.

Even still, Sengun has concerns about how he'll translate to the NBA since he has trouble defending in space, is kind of undersized at center and only shot like 18% from 3. Garuba has concerns with how much he'll bring to the table on offense. Begarin could end up being the better NBA player than both of them - they're all very young but Begarin defends well in space and can score in a variety of ways, handles the ball well, can pass it well, etc. I did hav e Sengun and Garuba ranked higher on my big board but not by much. And both Sengun and Garuba got drafted much higher than Begarin so we definitely got a good value pick IMO.

Also, it's not like Begarin had 1 season in France B league and that's it. This dude has been dominating competition at every level he's played in for yrs..this is U16 championships just 2 yrs ago:

yes, the FT shooting is a concern. Only other concern with him is sometimes his decision making with the ball leads to poor shot selection and turnovers. But c'mon, he's 18, those are definitely things he can work on. I'm confident that with a year (maybe 2) overseas he'll come over here ready to roll.

And honestly its pretty moot at this point in time.

lol Romeo is not 2 inches taller, he's 6'4" and Begarin is 6'6".

I admittedly knew nothing of him but seems like he is super raw.

Yeah IDK about nbadraftroom's heights. I know most sites list Romeo at 6'4" with 6'10" wingspan.

And these are the measurements from the G-League elite camp from a few weeks ago:
https://gleague.nba.com/news/2021-nba-g-league-elite-camp-player-measurement-results/

Heights with shoes are what the NBA counts officially, and they round up if you're a 1/2 inch over. So officially Begarin is 6'6", with 7'0" wingspan and 214 lbs.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Ok that's enough discussion about a player we won't even see until 2024. Wrap it up.
I don't believe in statistics. There are too many factors that can't be measured. You can't measure a ballplayer's heart. -Red Auerbach
