Re: Offseason Trades and Transaction Ideas Thread
I have a gut feeling we're gonna go after Lowry and Derozan together- which I wouldn't hate at all. I dont know if they'll succeed but that's my feeling

Re: Offseason Trades and Transaction Ideas Thread
I would assume there’s a tremendous logjam in the current roster. Something has to give.
Roster
PG Vildoza McBride Rokas*
SG Barrett Quickley
SF Grimes
PF Randle Toppin Knox Simms
C Mitch Pelle Sims
That’s like 12 players excluding Rokas.

In short, all I am saying is RJ-Brunson-Grimes-Quickley-Randle are the untouchables moving forward.

Lowry-RJ-DeRozen-Randle-Mitch lineup gives me all sorts of 2000s Pistons vibes. That has pretty much been Perry's dream and that kind of team fits in Thibs wheelhouse.

I don't think it's tremendous if you figure someone winds up at the end of the bench and/or in the G-League. Like, for sure the Sim(m)s.

Vildoza or McBride could easily become 11th men for a while.
I mean, I think a move is coming, but it's not quite a tremendous logjam, just a bit of one considering:
Neither Vildoza or McBride or Rokas* or even IQ is an NBA PG
And that
Grimes starting at SF is problematic.
So, Knicks are going to add, at LEAST - a staring NBA caliber wing and probably a starting PG.

They can offer Lowry around 30 mill, Derozan around 20 and still have some money left for Rose and/or Bullock.
Lowry and/or Derozan might fetch something come trade deadline if a capped out contender needs an extra punch

With that lineup and depth we would be pushing top 4 in the east again next season.

I am with you 100% bro. I am always a little dramatic and hence my usage of word “logjam”. Let it slide for now.
However, I wasn’t insinuating that we go into the season with these roster because WE DESPERATELY NEED TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS THIS YEAR AGAIN.
So I would welcome back Rose, Burks and Bullock. Surprisingly I think Burks will be the easy one to retain.
Taj will be a good mentor in that locker room and among those bugs. Mitch has not proven to me that he can be a leader among those bigs just yet. Something about him is off putting. Sorry!
In short, all I am saying is RJ-Brunson-Grimes-Quickley-Randle are the untouchables moving forward.

See it like this:
*FA Rose Vildozer
RJ McBride IQ
*FA Grimes Knox
Randle Toppin Taj
Mitch *FA Pelle
Sims and Simms as TWP
Our rotation will probably be the three FA's, RJ, ROse, Randle, Mitch, Toppin MAYBE Knox. McBride will probably be used like Frank.
If we are lucky, we will move some pieces for a mid-career starting point guard as opposed to the 30+ crowd who wants their last pay day.
Oubre with Bullock as b/u plan is probably a thing.
Robin Lopez I could see being a 1 year vet just to provide some stability.
Safe money is probably on Schroder since we need scoring and I always get what I absolutely don't want.

Both good takes. And OP was right to ID a bit of roster crunch.
Kind of makes you see that there is probably a trade of some kind in there, because a few of those players listed above probably not coming back, while as you stated, a few of the Knicks own FA's probably will be.

Being that we just paid 3M for Vildozer and in a almost corresponding action deferred our draft pick for salary (and asset) reasons, I think he is on the roster. Knox and Obi I think we are stuck with because we are tanking their value with our coaching decisions. IQ has some good value. We don't have much to move.
I would say that I hope a trade is imminent with these moves.

You'd think it would be imminent right? The cavs brought in Rubio, the Knicks didn't really make any move for a PG, seems like it would make too much sense at this point
