Re: Josh Richardson traded
Outside of getting a 2nd rounder or 2 back, this is about best case scenario for a J-Rich trade. Celtics fans are going to get so fed up with him lol

Looks like the Mavs will be getting a $10.9m trade exception in return freeing up $33m in cap space.

When you trade for no one, at least you can't lose the trade.
New GM wanted to get out of the cold streak.

Seth Curry trade looks real bad now. Who else you going to get for $8.5 million?

It hurt my eyes watching some of your games last season, he is a capable player but never turned it on for dallas

They will renounce the trade exception and take the cap space. This move puts them at $34.3M in cap space (minus THJ’s cap hold). If they end up letting THJ walk they can that would give them the full $34.3M in cap space. If they made another salary dump they could push that number over $40M in cap space. They could potentially add 2 very good players this off season in free agency. Then would still have the MLE.
How would Lowry, Holmes, and Otto Porter (MLE) sound for this off season?

If they renounce WCS' team option they can bring the cap room up even further. I prefer they get both Lowry and Derozan. Flank Luka with real vets. And maybe get a big man via the MLE.

Re: Josh Richardson traded
It's on.
They are going for cap space, they can dump Burke easily for cash, so you can assume it's 37 million.
The question is will they dump Powell using assets.

WCS contract is not fully guaranteed. They can renounce that and Burke and bring the figure to $40M.

As a cap space team we only get the room MLE which is roughly 5m per year capped at two years. Otto Porter isn't signing a 2/10 deal.
Lowry or Collins are the likely targets IMO. If we strike out on those two just bring back THJ, operate over the cap and gain access to the Richardson TPE and the full mid-level.

I know I was vocally against it.
But the majority of Mavs fans were calling it a good move. Heck I remember several guys here arguing with me saying that Terry would replace Seth immediately.....

Re: Josh Richardson traded
Seth's only value is shooting. People forget that when Philly lost the playoff series against the Hawks, the Hawks players kept on feeding whoever had Seth Curry matched up because he couldn't play defense and was easily overpowered. Simmons not hitting his free theows is another thing but Seth was a big reason for their loss too. A backcourt of Seth + Luka would easily give up 160 pts on the other end.
If Luka played defense like Lebron then that wouldn't have been a problem. But he just stands on D. So Dallas needs players that can cover for that the same way they did for Dirk playing matador defense. Luka and Dirk does more for offense so they get a pass. It's just a matter of fit.

You complain about defense, but then want to get DeRozan and even suggested getting Carmelo.
If the Mavs had Curry last year, they probably make the 2nd round considering how bad their defense was even without him and 3pt shooting cost them a couple of games.
Great consistent shooting and bad defense is better than most of the Mavs rotation. And certainly better than Carmelo. I also rather have Curry at 8m than DeRozan at whatever he'll get.

Actually i think me and Bob8 were the only ones saying it's a bad deal. People were actually happy because, you know, "defense". Which Jrich played none of.
And same thing will happen again when most of Mavs fans here want THJ gone. People don't realize that 20M for shooters is not expensive on todays market. But oh well....
It's a good step in the right direction from new management.

Buddy Hield is one of the best shooters in the league, and he's a bad contract, THJ was 16/yr when the Knocks sent him as poison pill with KP, Kennard is considered a bad contract now (14/yr), Bertans is considered a bad contract now (16/yr).
I want THJ back, he's a great locker room guy, he's a professional and he's got the balls to take and make tough and crucial shots, OTOH, he also has a knack to try to take over games and do what he can't (drive a packed lane and finish).
If Mavs had a Lowry/Conley and big 3&D forward, I'd say pay him 20 easily, this is owner's money, but the Mavs have crucial spots to fill.
