Cross-over news from draft info, but Jonathan Woo projects us to select Moses Moody, a 6'6" SG - yes, another one. However, for the purposes of this thread, Woo also wrote this nugget:

... but it’s been rumored that they aren’t necessarily attached at the hip to players like Dejounte Murray and Lonnie Walker.

https://www.si.com/nba/2021/07/28/nba-mock-draft-2021-latest-buzz-rumors-cade-cunningham-jalen-green-evan-mobley

Hmm. Interesting. These are also coincidentally the two players I'm not completely attached to, meaning nothing in practical terms, but as a fan we see what PATFO sees and that's without the benefit of inside intel, although admittedly what some fans look at and what perceptions come out of it can be wholly different.

I'd love it if we could do DJ, Lonnie, some sort of pick(s) / swap offer for Jayne Brown...

Rumors swirling that we turned down an offer for Simmons from Philadelphia for 4 first round picks, 3 pick swaps and one of our young guys LOL.

I remember when they wanted to give us Saric and Covington for Leonard and couldn't understand why we wouldn't do that.
That is such a delusional and trash franchise. Embid is going to figure this out sooner or later and want out.

I would love to take a shot at Simmons but they are crazy to think anyone in their right mind is going to give them a huge haul like that for him. Especially after opting out on the Olympics to chase supermodels...

Hahaha yeah I posted the audio snippet at the end of pg. 2 here. SO absurd. Only one young guy? How nice of them! Why don't we throw in a billion dollars, some cap space relief by taking another dead weight contract off their hands, and a Fiesta flag.

I get negotiation tactics so that you end up with more than what your bottom line price is, but everyone saw what BS did in the POs, what his rep is since HS, how he's only ever reinforced it. Didn't help that their franchise player and coach publicly questioned him after the POs. Still a quality asset, but if he didn't have fundamental problems and fit he wouldn't have to be traded.

There's word of Morey waiting it out until Beal and / or Dame making up their minds about their futures with their franchises and although 76ers won't want all the picks assets as their window with Embiid is small, so they could flip these for one of those stars instead. Whatever. The cost is wayyyy too high.

Like I said - if we're parting with, say, DJ/Lonnie/picks/swaps, I'd love it for Jaylen Brown which balances out both teams, but we're not in the doing another franchise a favour at the expense of long term damage to ours business.

Hello, Spurs fans-

Just to clarify, Lonnie for #31 via the Bucks' TPE is not considerable, yeah?

Based on T&T thread chatter.

Hello,

Have heard we're not overly attached to Lonnie but we drafted him at #18 and developed him, and we don't need the cap space, so this deal doesn't make sense for us. If we do trade LWIV, it has to make sense for us ie/ part of a package for a player we're targeting.

He's slotted for a bigger role, perhaps pushing the starters for one if his handles and finishing at the rim get better. He fits the age of our young group, is already one of our most efficient 3 scorers - something we sorely need - and very athletic which fits our move to a more transition-oriented style.

I'd be shocked if we made this trade even though we've worked out a ton of players below our position, end of first round in particular. But as it stands, what's the benefit for us to give up the better, known asset for what's behind mystery door #31?

Hmm. Interesting. So we are interested, reportedly, in Kuzma:

I'd be all for Kuzma just to be rid of DeRozan LOL. If he has the right attitude he fits in perfectly with us and I hope he brings some hate for the Lakers with him.

But if the Lakers wait they can get DeRozan for nothing and use Kuzma to go after Hield so I don't see us making this deal happen.
Also.. F _ _ K the lakers!!!!!

The Kuzma sweepstakes for DeMar, make that Hield, going once, going twice, nope, for a Westbrook package! Just as well. We have other plans...

To that end, Brian Wright acknowledges we have roster needs to address and we're not done working to fill them:

An update about our own UFAs:

With Westbrook being traded for by LAL, it essentially prevents a S&T with DeMar. If he wants to play for LAL he'll have to take a significant pay cut unless they somehow make other roster changes. But anyway, Kuzma and the #22 pick is no longer in play for us.

I feel bad for DeMar. He took a less-than-max deal to re-sign in TO when he had a chance to sign with the Lakers as UFA previously, then was told he was part of team plans and what they were two days before being traded, and now having publicly expressed an interest in playing at home, this happens. Wish him the best and I hope it works out better than expected for him and for us.

There's some whispers about Rudy to LAL now...

And as for Patty who I hope will be a Spur for life and end up in the coaching tree for us:

Some FA interest rumours:
Read on Twitter

John Collins is reportedly most interested in staying with the Hawks and it's mutual though the owner has publicly stated the price has to be right. I still think it's worth it to reach out with a tempting offer.

The Oubre interest was known previously. It has been reported he is seeking in the neighbourhood of $20M/yr :o Oh dear...

Zach Collins interest is new, but he's coming off of a re-fractured foot in late June.

Oubre I might be interested in if the price was right.

John Collins we are going to have to WAYYY overpay to get.

Zach Collins doesn't do anything for me. Maybe if we can get him for literally nothing. The guy from Gonzaga I wouldn't mind would be Kelly Olynyk. Again, for the right price. He can score from three and inside and would offset Poeltl

Are there any more Collins out there?

Richaun Holmes is reportedly looking for 4 years at $80 million. That might be something I would do if I were the Spurs. We got the cap space for it.

If we want to go cheap, Mo Wagner would fit nicely with us. I've said here before I would love to see him in SA. He is coming into his own and I think would flourish with us. He can score inside and out and is hyper aggressive offensively and defensively.

Holmes plays with an intensity inside that we lack. He's had a solidly improved two years but the crutch is like Jakob, he also doesn't shoot 3s. Great FT% so perhaps it's something to develop, but as it stands, he is what he is.

Wagner is an intriguing option! We could have an Austria-Germany connection. Shoots 3s. Why is his rebounding per game so low? Does he play more outside? He's a huge beast so it stands to reason that the hyper aggressive play should result in improved rebounding numbers.

He tends to float outside at times. Also he doesn't play like the traditional back to the basket big. But he does move well without the ball and like I said, he is confident and aggressive.

Orlando just drafted his brother so maybe he wants to stay there but he might not get to choose.
