Isn't there some obscure loophole where we could renounce Lauri, only to, I guess, de-nounce him later and offer him the QO? I swear someone posted that here the other day.
We wouldn't have the room under the cap to offer him the QO late, and I believe that rule is only if Lonzo was matched not if he joins the team. We could still sign him for the QO amount after Lonzo, but after that point he wouldn't be restricted and could take a 1 year deal anywhere and would probably find a 2 year deal at the MLE with a player option if he really wanted.
I found a way for my scenario to still happen, but its dependent upon trading all three of Thad, Sato, and Aminu for cap space, Lonzo willing to sign a 4-year/$69M contract, and Lauri then accepting the QO, all of which is unlikely. This is pipe dream level though, as in this situation we're able to sign Lonzo, keep Theis, Lauri, and Temple, and add Doug McDermott:

Anything where you have Lauri on the QO and sign someone else is really just a pipe dream due to the timing issue I mentioned again. It's technically possible, but impossible from a practical standpoint when you look at how FA has played out. There are never big FAs out after a week, and no one ever signs the QO unless they think they have absolutely no job market until October. Lauri can get offers above the OQ if the Bulls renounce him and knows it, so he isn't going to do that.
