That’s what I hope it is. A contract worth more than he would get in the market, but short so we can still go Star hunting next year.

Re: Offseason Trades and Transaction Ideas Thread
A quick thought on the statement "Knicks won't get bogged down with RFA's since it might screw them over, as teams could wait to match, Knicks left holding the bag". I'm paraphrasing some pundit here.
I don't really buy it. I mean, sure, if the situation is a straight RFA thing, yeah. But most RFA stuff winds up being a S&T situation. Original team knows player isn't coming back, gets a little something out of the situation, maintains relations with the player/agent/fellow GM's.
I mean, I guess there is the "hostile takeover RFA offer" where a team just tries to snatch a player, but I don't think it'll go like that.
If the Knicks want Ball, they'll S&T with the Pelicans and the Pels will get something. I get the cap matters, so there is where intel on the other team's intentions goes. Knicks make an offer knowing the Pels won't match or f*ck around. For instance. I'm not saying Ball is the #1 target.
Maybe regarding the wing player they clearly need they are more likely to go UFA and not strike out. That's if they aren't saving for 2022.

Re: Offseason Trades and Transaction Ideas Thread
Technically speaking, there is no signing on Monday at 6 pm. That is when players are allowed to start having negotiations with other teams. Obviously, magically, most come to agreement within a minute or so after negotiations are allowed to start

Ball is a good starting point guard, triple double threat, plays defense, reliable shooter. 20M/year is a bargain.
Dennis Schroder turned town a similar deal, can't play defense, streaky on offense, and has resting @$$ hole face.

they should sign Paul if they can. I don't want to hear **** about a timeline considering this team wants to compete and isn't looking to score a franchise player through the draft. the suns core is younger than ours anyway and we're not going to get anyone great in FA this off season nor the next. **** a pipe dream.

I don’t see us going for Schroder due to his lack of defense, he would be in Thibs doghouse day 1. Schroder is a 6th man and should never be given the keys to a car.

I agree RFA offer usually ends in an S&T situation. My point is S&T for RFA players will cost us assets. Since we have cap space to get UFA players "for free", the RFA players have to be a really great fit and way better than the UFA options. If we had to trade assets, I think Rozier and Sexton would be better options than RFA alternatives.

More guessing:
Cp3 ,Kawhi, Conley, Norman: stand pat.
Lowry - should choose a contender. Dallas, Sixers or Heat.
RFA options - it will be a contingency plan.
Trades - Only if we get a good deal until then or start to strike out.
UFA most probable targets:
PG: Dennis or Spencer
Wing: Fournier, Oubre or DeRozan.
Center: I think we need a replacement for Noel. I would rather give the Room MLE to someone. But it can be enough to get a workable big. Noel was a steal for his salary. Maybe Noel or Drummond.

More and more I see how this playing out barring Lowry or CP, or a blockbuster trade which doesn’t look likely, think Rose and crew punt this summer once again, sign 1 yr deal guys and be ready for next summer with better options

The FO has enough punters to start an NFL franchise.
