Simmons with good shooting is an amazing player

I totally agree. But that isn't this reality and probably never will be...

If Ben cared enough to learn how to shoot...he would have done it by now. Instead...he's being traded because he doesn't think he needs listen to his coaches and try to improve.

I don't think him working on his shot off game is the issue, I think Ben is just afraid to shoot in game for whatever reason.

It doesn't matter how much you practice your shot if you are not willing to put it into practice in an actual NBA game.

Barnes wingspan is 3 inches longer than Ben. It’s very possible he becomes as good if not better on the defensive end. If he improves his shot which I think he will, I think a better version of Simmons is definitely possible

If he really works hard on his game like we saw with Demar, 25-7-5 with elite defense is doable in his prime

He seems to have the mentality and drive to get there

Ben got screwed going to an organization that ACCEPTED his poor work ethic and didnt challenge him enough to get better. They failed him. For sure its on him too, but team culture for development has to be at the raptors level in order to really succeed (even for top 5 picks). I think thats also why they loved Barnes.

Not saying he'll be Magic, but he's got some of the same personality and also playstyle looks similar.

When he says he models his game after Magic, I can definitely see it.

I don't think Ben's defence is THAT much better. They can both pass. Other than that...is it that hard to average 14 points. 6 assists and 7 rebounds a game?

It doesn’t seem like crazy stats, but other than shooting a three point shot here and there what other aspect of Barnes’ game can you see being better than Ben’s. Ben’s an elite driver and passer and only averages 14 points. I see Barnes being a poor mans of that minus the shooting so what does that say

Scottie is somewhere between Giannis, Kawhi, Iguodala, or T-Mac in my opinion. If he reaches his ceiling he's a superstar.

You know what I like about this kid, he's not afraid of using floaters. If he works on it, I can see that being a deadly part of his arsenal when he gets walled off the paint.

“Floater”? What’s a floater??

I’m a vanvleet and Lowry fan so I’m hoping to learn new terminology! :D

VV & Lowry got that booty bump in the paint going, who needs a floater with those assets.

While I agree they have the ideal ASS-et for booty bumping.. I believe vanvleet is the most blocked player at the rim. Man is too small. Definitely could use a floater

Scottie could be that guy though. Simmons 2.0. We can hope anyway

Gonna be a fan favourite

He's just a really likeable dude with a great personality. He's also friends with seemingly every high ranked prospect. Obviously it's a big unknown and it wouldn't even matter for a few years, but if he really pans out to be a star, I feel like he would be a huge asset when it comes to recruiting other great players to join our team. The one thing that we've never been able to do in our entire team's history.

He could end up being a very valuable recruiter.

Ben is the best defender in the NBA IMO. But even if Barnes doesn't reach that level, he can still easily be the better player by just developing a rudimentary offensive game.

When Cade is fed up with Detroit we'll see him in a Raptors jersey like he should've been all along

Totally agree, driving head first into defense might be a way to get to the line but its ugly to watch especially when its shorter, stockier guards doing it. A good floater to me is almost a requirement for guards to have in their toolkit. But its also not the easiest thing to master.
