I think some of you talk about 1 year deals like those are what players want. Other than preserving cap space, I dont think they offer much benefit. Negative impact on player buy in, prob not great on the existing players to constantly have 6 new teammates, not a tin of trade value.

Just so the news don't hit too hard.
If we re-sign Payton for the amount we saved by trading the 19th pick, I'm done.
God, I hope it's true.
Also, it's not resigning Elf for the money saved by trading the 19th pick.
It's money saved vs signing Schroeder or Ball, or $ AND assets saved vs trading for Sexton. AND then, $ saved not having to pay some bench guy for 3 years.
I admire the frugal fiscal responsibility of the FO and their desire to commit years and money at the same time to only the most very excellent players, not wanting to waste precious dollars and time on the likes of Ball, Schroeder, THT, Trent Jr, Powell, Fournier, Oubre, DeRozan - all not fit to don the Knick uniform or cash MSG checks or share breathing the rarified locker room air created by the presence of Randle and RJ.

SILENCE!
Only stars can get more than 1 year deals.

they better have big plans for FA, b/c if they traded away a nice pick in a good draft for an extra 2.7M to spend on middling veteran FA's that have no future here, it would look like a bonehead decision (it already kinda does IMO)The trust in Thibodeau and the developmental staff is so high, they believe modest free-agent moves will lead to another playoff finish
maybe if they miss the playoffs, they might realize their hubris.....they acted like a contender during the draft, when they should have been aggressive adding talent
not gonna be easy to make it back to the playoffs either
Now Mitch going to get all sullen about being underpaid.
Hopefully they trade him fast before his bad attitude infects any of the 1 year vets we bring in.

Re: Offseason Trades and Transaction Ideas Thread
Like I've been saying all along...there is nothing to get excited about this summer involving the roster. Now that the draft is over...it's up to SL to make this summer fun because I doubt anyone is gonna be too happy with the players we end up signing. Hopefully we don't give away any bad deals.

Randle/Obi/Simms

So far... that's our roster. How much improvement will there be? Schroeder/Fournier/Holmes etc? I don't see anything worth getting excited about and there isn't a single UFA I would offer more than 2yrs to with the second year being a team option.
Randle and RJ will be due money after this season. Then what? The timing of all of this is off by a year. We overachieved our way into a corner. We will regress and Dolan will be lurking in the shadows ready to pounce!

I get the couple of different tapes confused. Isn't that tape the one that does some scouting?
Its the tape Elfrid has over Scott Perry

B: Melo | FVV | Rozier
B: J. Green | Donte | N. Clifford
B: Herb | K. Oubre | B. Hield
B: Zion | G. Yabusele | D. Jones Jr

Some inside info?
I'd rather they just release him after this year.
Kind of inside… there’s a certain center on the Pacers we like…
Goga Bitazde won't come cheap!

Someone talked Dolan into championing these one-year signings, which wasnt hard considering what the Knicks experienced during the dark times. Its alright when done in moderation. Knicks abuse it to hell and back.
If I was an NBA player and I signed into a 1-year deal because of lack of options, I would treat it as a contract year outright and pad my stats with no mercy

If they went beyond the one year deals I would be able to support it. You just have to hope that the deals aren’t overpays for bad production. No one could predict it but you know, no Tim Hardaway type deals where it’s clear the market is giving everyone a raise based on production.

Word is that they were aggressive. That they tried to move up to #14 and #15 , but both attempts were rebuffed. The 2 tre's being taking right before us didn't help.

It felt like it was going to be an expensive draft to move up into the late lotto range. If the cost was too great and impacts a hopefully/presumably strategic FA plan with some idea about who is coming, then maybe you don't sell the farm for pick 13 and risk the plan
