Re: Corey Kispert, Wizards Sniper.
Kispert's improvement from his Junior to his Senior is really impressive -- obvious on the videos & maybe even more obvious in the way his already outstanding numbers jumped his last year.
It's impossible to predict how all that will translate to the league, but certainly he has a chance to be a terrific player.

Yeah I like Dat's comp for him:
Slightly shorter arms than Wallyworld, but similar outside inside game. Both 6'7" solid.

Smokin' hot IMO and she seems to be a really sweet girl. Tall, yes. I think she's a 6'3" basketball no volleyball player.
I HATE for her that Kispert's coming to a bad city for relationships. Lots of thirsty women in DC. Was way more women than men. Lots of powerful, wealthy women who will pursue Corey K. Moreso than if he went someplace like Denver or Minneapolis.
His girl is hot but she ain't worldly slick.
Bye bye Beal.

If I were his coach I would plan on bringing him along similarly to how he came in at Gonzaga. Token minutes (the first two NCAA years).
It seems to me Garrison Mathews, if he stays with the Wizards should be given the respect due as a veteran. I'd play Kispert with Garrison or behind him, initially.
Seems to me Deni Advidja isn't better than Kispert or Mathews. He's taller, a better facilitator, but I NEED TO SEE MORE...
Kispert's future really depends on his ascendancy. That doesn't need rushed IMO.
Bye bye Beal.

I think Wally was a more fluid player for what it's worth.

Re: Corey Kispert, Wizards Sniper.
Also, Kispert won't be nearly the defensive sieve people expect. Look at his combine numbers: 10.91 in the lane agility faster than Herbert Jones, he had the 3rd fastest shuttle run at 2.99 (same as Scottie Barnes), his 3 quarter sprint was 3.12 the same as Zaire Williams, he has a standing vertical of 30 and a max vertical of 37.5. Not nearly as bad of an athlete as people made him out to be.

Are you comparing senior year Kispert to prime Wally Szczerbiak?

I don't have a time machine to see what Kispert will be in the future but comparing them in college then yes Wally was a more fluid athlete and player to me.

Re: Corey Kispert, Wizards Sniper.
So here's the thing with comparisons. We have a vastly different NBA now than when a lot of these comparisons were playing. For example Szczerbiak was a great player when he played, but if he played now he would be even more valuable and even more lethal. Szczerbiak averaged 2.2 3-point attempts a game for his career. Kispert is going to average way more than that. But I think that is the lane that Kispert should be in. The Peja, Allan Houston, Wally Sczcerbiak, Reggie Miller lane. None of these guys were explosive athletes but they all were knockdown 3-point shooters who used the defense's desire to take away their 3-point shot as a fulcrum to become a good scorer.
I think more recent comparisons would be a guy like Bojan Bogdonavic
;ab_channel=DelayofGameHoops
It's tough to pin down numbers for Kispert because a lot of that will depend on how he's used. I hope Unsled Jr is creative in how to use him. If all we do is use him as a spot-up shooter that will be a waste. We need to take advantage of Beal's ability to play off-ball and go all-in on a movement-based offense.

Re: Corey Kispert, Wizards Sniper.
Nate Duncan wasn't very impressed with the Kispert pick. He thought Garrison Matthews is a better player right now. Although a Kispert, Bertans, and Matthews lineup would be fun - although have to imagine that some team will give Matthews a decent sized deal.
I'm hoping Kispert's impact can be more immediate than guys like JJ Reddick or Dog McDermott who took some time to find their footing. I think Kispert projects to be a better defender than either of those guys due to his decent agility tests .

Good game to watch. I watched part of it when it happened live, but I wasn't really watching focusing on Kispert. Imo, his defense is way better than advertised. I expected a Davis Bertans level of defense with consistent blow-byes. Instead, what I saw was a guy who really only got beat on step-back 3's. He got taken off the dribble once at 19:27 but that was after Baylor had already knocked down several 3's and the Zags were trying to run them off the free throw line.
In addition, to connect it to something I wrote in the Rui thread, Kispert has a good natural feel for the game. 46:05 Baylor traps him as he comes off the PnR, he doesn't panic, but rather he simply accepts the trap and finds the roll man.
He can anticipate what's happening and where the ball will go. 1:11:40 is a good example of this. 1:01:55 again, just a good feel for the game. My favorite play from Kispert was at 53:29. The only thing I'd change is that I wouldn't save the ball.
I can see Kispert struggling offensively in playoff games where teams really turn up the intensity and challenge everything. But even then you're talking about a great 3-point shooter and an average defender with good defensive instincts.

Interesting observations.
Kispert made some solid plays but also they seemed to put Kispert on the worst perimeter player out there. Butler really took advantage of Kispert when he was switched onto him. It also seemed like Kispert's best stretch during that run at the end of the first half happened when Gonzaga played zone. Basically it looks like Kispert could be an ok team defender but would be worried about him guarding point guards on switches.

Which plays do you think Butler really took advantage of Kispert? If Butler makes a stepback 3, that's not really on Kispert imo. In 2021, if a guard is going to consistently knock down stepback 3's the only answer is really to double team. The play is unguardable.
I really don't remember any clear plays where someone blew by Kispert with a simple move and got a straight-line drive. The only switches I'd be worried about with Kispert are the switches that I'd be worried about regardless. Lillard, Kyrie, Harden, KD, Curry, Young, Mitchell etc.
What I was more concerned about were the come-from-behind blocks of his layups by the athletic Baylor defenders. When we get into playoff Basketball, teams with long athletic wing defenders will be able to put the clamps on him. A lot of people on this board knocked the Raptors for drafting Barnes but in a league where shooting is becoming more and more commonplace, long switchable defenders are going to be needed sadly the Wizards are lacking these players.
*Baylor's game plan was also a good one. Get Drew Timme in the switch and attack him relentlessly. I look forward to watching Kispert guard in isolation in Summer league.

Probably the best comp for him that's been mentioned is Bojan Bogdanovich - Kispert's probably an inch taller. Bojan looked real good shooting in the playoffs I saw this year. There's no reason why Kispert can't do the same. Just because team's generally do not shoot 3's as well in the playoffs doesn't mean they aren't just as important. I think it's even more important then to have snipers like him.
