It's the time of year when we are shocked to realize players are valued a lot higher than we fans think they are

I’ve always liked him. Very solid player on both ends.
Same here
I was hoping the clippers would of got him, Wright or McConnell using Lou Will expiring last season.

Seems viable.
except he's NOT an off-ball SG...that's already covered by LaVine. Ball would finally be the deserved primary ball handling PG if he goes to CHI. He should thrive in that role. The move makes total sense
Except he's not a good enough ball handler or penetrator to be a primary ball handler. His ideal role is off ball

I think his lack of ability to get by his man off the dribble and be a scoring threat from the triple threat position severly limits his ability to be successful as a primary ball handler.

Luka, Harden, LaMelo, Cade, Paul, and almost every other PG can't do it either and it doesn't stop them. Turns out, when you can use moving screens, freeze bigs with a carry, step back travel and push off on the way to the rim with impunity, and foul bait, you don't need to have electric athleticism and a quick first step like PGs used to need. It's a high screen league on almost every possession. Needing a quick first step is more important for the wings now. Lonzo is more than capable of utilizing all those same tricks. The reason you haven't seen it is because teams had him playing off ball because he was capable of doing so and they had vets who couldn't, to play PG/point forward. It doesn't hurt that he's a matchup nightmare for smaller guards since he's 6'7". Ball actually did it quite a bit in LA especially when Lebron was out

So you really think Luka, Harden, and CP3 can't get by their man off the dribble. Yikes.
If Ball could do it and is just hiding it until next year then he's cost himself a max contract and that's a neat trick. In reality he's got about the same first step as Smart and it's a huge issue to being an PG.

If the Pels sign Lowry, you can bet the raptors are going to offer over 20.

Combination of weird incentives to overpay from the fact that restricted free agency exists and the fact rookie scale contracts are artificially low because future rookies have no voice in CBA negotiations.

Yes thats true, but also just how every year on day 1 and 2 there are some wild contracts. Like Bertans and the Wiz. I remember people arguing if he was worth 10 mill per season or not. There are some absolute stunners every year early on

It would be a shame if Griff gave Lowry anything over 2 years on a deal, I feel like Zion pushing to win now will backfire for all involved. The Pels have a great young core.

Giving up on a 23 year old Lonzo Ball to chase a 35 year old Kyle Lowry is another head scratching move from Griffin. I loved him on NBA radio when he was unemployed and thought he would do a great job but he's been awful.

I doubt it's Griff 'giving up on' Lonzo. I think there are external factors forcing his hand.

If Pels are in a bidding war for Lowry and the Bulls come out of the gate with an offer then the Pelicans have no choice but to let Ball go. Since Ball will take up their cap space and they can’t trade for Lowry unless it’s a sign and trade but they’d have to send back the all their rookie contracts to make up Lowry’s salary. I think it’s a smart move from the Bulls, a team that needs to add some defense and another playmaker around Lavine and Vucevic.

well isnt own wiggins the definition of massive overpay? gambling on a guy who was compared to jason kidd is not the worst when we live in an era bum collins is getting 4/120. that being said, lonzo is not an all star to elevate a crap team to playoffs they will be lucky to enter playins and pack home.
