She asked about the shift from drafting long athletic guys to more skilled cerebral players. One of the things he mentioned was that was more the norm for the league at that time and they built teams to fit their best players strengths. He said at the time we had some special players we were building around. He then shifted to now and said for this rebuild, it’s a “blank slate”.

I can’t help but wonder if that was a bit of an unintentional slip on how he views shai’s future. Maybe I’m reading too much in to it but I fail to see the harm in talking openly about building around Shai if that’s the intention moving forward.
Good catch. I heard that too. I would say one could infer that he doesn't view Shai as a centerpiece. Or alternatively that he views Shai as versatile enough he could be used in a variety of ways.

Agreed. It’s not necessarily a signal that Shia is gone but Sam doesn’t view him as Luka. While that might seem fairly obvious, it’s not uncommon for some GMs to fall in love with lesser talent, like the wizards with Beal.

Bulls and Lavine comes up to my mind. That sort of really good/star, not quite superstar level player.

Yep. Lavine was seen as an empty stats guy until this year. So why put a cap on what shai will be at this point? His best years are still 4-5 years away.

I dont think Shai is a top 10 guy in the league, ever. But hes a great player and we are lucky to have him.

I also think Shai could fit any system. When we had Russ we had to play to his strengths.

Favors/Jre
Bazley/Roby
Dort/Poku/Deck/Kenrich
SGA/Maledon/Jerome
Giddey/Kemba/Mann

Not enough minutes to rehab Kemba's trade value. Rather play the young guys.

Hoard coming back? Gonna need some upgrades though.

Damn not drafting Sengun is a crime. Sengun/Poku/Dort/SGA/Giddey line up would have been so fun to watch.

From the OKCThunder.com article on today's festivities:

On Saturday the Thunder introduced rookies Josh Giddey, Tre Mann, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and Aaron Wiggins to a crowd of team officials, community heroes and media. Freshly-pressed jerseys were presented and the four NBA dreamers held their Thunder threads proudly as Thunder General Manager and Executive Vice President Sam Presti beamed. The message from Presti was clear – the quartet of newcomers were selected first and foremost because of the type of people they are. In Oklahoma City, the type of citizen joining the organization is the highest priority.

Sam Presti's lived here for over ten years and doesn't know anything about what Oklahomans want first and foremost from their star athletes.

... we're one of the winningest franchises in all of sports since moving to okc.

Why??? We have Mann, Maledon, Dort, SGA, Giddey, Kemba and ty, plus other player that can play some minutes at sg, we need pf or c , the only way i go for a pg or another sg is if he is a guy like Beal, Murray, fox or similar

I think we will likely dump Kemba (maybe with detroit FRP) and Ty Jerome is gone probably...no playing time for true PG.

If we trase kemba and ty maybe i like that we get him, dont think he would sign with us, but he can be a good six man and energy guy

Not surprised about Bradley. A bit surprised about svi but I’m fine with it.

You're surprised we extended the qualifying to svi?

Looks like deck won't be back?

A little bit but I’m fine with it. When we traded Cam Payne for McDermott and company, we didn’t retain Doug. I thought svi might be similar. I don’t see him signing an offer sheet somewhere else but maybe I’m wrong since this isn’t a great free agent class.

Deck coming over late in the season only to be stuck in quarantine for the same amount of time that he played ~10 games for us is one of the weirder footnotes we’ve had, up there with the Ronnie Price debacle. At least that’s a roster spot opened up with him going to Barcelona.
