[Chris Mannix] Brad Stevens has been frustrated by Marcus Smart’s unpredictable play and would be willing to trade him

The article is behind a paywall:

https://www.si.com/nba/2021/08/02/2021-nba-free-agency-preview-rumors-buzz

"Boston’s acquisition of Josh Richardson could spell the end of Marcus Smart’s run in Boston. Smart has become a fan favorite over seven years in Boston, but Brad Stevens has been frustrated by Smart’s unpredictable play in recent years, per sources. Smart, one of the NBA’s better perimeter defenders, is entering the final year of his contract. Boston could extend Smart, but two people familiar with Stevens thinking tell SI it’s more likely Stevens will look to trade Smart before the start of the season. Boston shopped Smart last season, seeking multiple first round picks, a team executive with knowledge of the discussions told SI. Smart’s value now? “Probably a first round pick and a rotational player,” a high ranking Eastern Conference executive told SI. “Might be able to swap him for similar player that fits a positional need. [Danny Ainge] valued him like an All-Star though—he is not.”

He's a Robert Covington type in the sense that his contributions aren't all necessarily on the score box. With that bein said, he's inconsistent. They'd be lucky to get a (projected) mid-first rounder for him.

A little while back there were articles about how Celtics players were frustrated that Brad Stevens loves Smart so much and favored him. Now Brad Stevens hates Smart and wants to trade him haha.

Boston fans happy about this?
Celtics fan.
We also face the Kings twice in the near future. I think it's time Yabu pays back some of that free money he's been given his entire career and bounces Fox for a nice 2 week ankle sprain.

Still remember him turning into Steph Curry and being a big reason the raps were eliminated in a very open East that year. Will always hate him for that

Beyond that tho, there should be a pretty big market for his services.

Mannix was also the same guy who said Smart's value was around the 7th pick in the draft TWO MONTHS AGO.

With Kemba shipped out, why would they be shopping Smart too? Whose gonna man the point full time? -Pritchard?? He's not ready to become a full time starter on a team that is looking to compete.

Hmm, tricky situation. He is great at all times on defense, but for sure he is a question mark on offense, sometimes can and other cant shoot, isnt a lead guard and the Celtics tried to use like one. He is a very goot starter, if he could get a good starting (real) PG I would do the trade. Maybe he is enough for a S&T for Lonzo ? Devonte Graham if they receive draft compensation maybe ? Would Toronto consider receiving him for Lowry ?

Last season the coach favored Smart over better players so this season the FO wants to trade Smart to avoid that happening again. Makes sense.

Sure, if you ignore that last year's coach and this year's GM are the same person.

I'd love to bring in Smart vs paying Trent. A Fred/Smart/OG/Pascal/FA Center would be fun to watch.

I'm not sure honestly. I might be a robot I guess.

Who needs center ? Moves Pascal there and let put the draft pick to work, it looks like he will be a nice defender. Dont know on offense, but it would be a headache to score against this squad.

If NO brought on Smart for Lonzo, I would demand a trade if I was Zion because that would tell me once and for all that the front office there has absolutely no idea what they are doing.
