Miami has a path where they could go into the next 3 playoffs with a starting lineup of Lowry, Oladipo, Butler, DeRozan and Bam, that's a complete lineup of some all-stars and some fringe all-star talent. Without a top 5 guy, this is about as good as you can get, you have a whole starting 5 that can defend, be able to switch everyone and be in good shape, create their own shot and create for others, there is a lack of 3pt shooters but Lowry shot 40% from 3pt range last year and hopefully Butler and Oladipo can work on their 3s to be solid on open 3s. You can also sprinkle in 3pt shooters from the bench. All of this and possibly retaining Herro for the bench... that's a great amount of talent for a roster.
How many teams have enough defense to stop every single starter of Lowry, Oladipo, Butler, DeRozan and Bam, most of the time the top 1 or 2 defenders are on them, in this situation 3 of them would have the 3rd, 4th or 5th best defenders on them for a huge mismatch. Just sprinkle some defenders and 3pt shooters with them off the bench and that team is a strong contender.
On retaining Oladipo, you sign him to a 1+1, either party declines next year's option and Miami has his Bird rights and can pay him while going into the tax if you want.
All that and it may be possible to add R.Gay.
Lowry, Oladipo, Butler, DeRozan, Bam, Herro and Gay... and probably Vincent, Strus and KZ.
Go all in!
I love it, let's add Boby Portis to the mix, we need a thug on the low block
