Honestly it's the idea of having to play against Smart on another team that terrifies me more so than the idea of not having Smart on the C's.

Wait, we already dumped Hayward and Kemba.

The owners can't be worried about luxury tax concerns. The compromise to make sure they'd never have to pay a cent was either paying Fournier or Smart.

There's no reason to dump Smart if we're losing Fournier for free.

Like the owners don't make more money if they're 10 mil under the cap vs 10 cents under the cap.

This doesn't pass the sniff test unless they really think Smart is going to get the max next off season. Don't get me wrong, someone will throw 20ish mil a year at him, but with everyone else on the roster gutted and full of nothing but draft picks that shouldn't be a concern.

Would Toronto consider receiving him for Lowry ?

I'd love to bring in Smart vs paying Trent. A Fred/Smart/OG/Pascal/FA Center would be fun to watch.

Who needs center ? Moves Pascal there and let put the draft pick to work, it looks like he will be a nice defender. Dont know on offense, but it would be a headache to score against this squad.

Our entire 2021 season was derailed by having to play the likes of Aaron Baynes and Alex Len at center prior to the Birch signing. We tried the OG-Pascal frontcourt but they are both average to below-average rebounders for their position and size.

Dennis Schroeder?

Really? That kind of language is just uncalled for. Go wash your mouth out with soap.

If the Celtics throw 20 million + at Smart next offseason they might as well start the process early of trading Tatum. He's not staying to play on a team where most of the money is tied up between Smart himself and Brown. Smart is a good role player not someone who is slotted to be a member of a big 3.

He could work if the Celtics work out an agreement that every team they play has to wear a Celtics jersey since he always goes off vs Boston. On this team he'd be trash.

He won't stay for a team of just Brown and Tatum either. Have to be realistic about who's taking discounts to come here.

The best hope one has is resigning one or both of Smart/Fournier and trading them plus like 4 firsts for another all-star to pair with Tatum and give him belief he could win a championship next year.

If NO brought on Smart for Lonzo, I would demand a trade if I was Zion because that would tell me once and for all that the front office there has absolutely no idea what they are doing.

If theres one FO that could make exactly this is NO   jokes apart, if last season is Lonzo new normal, great passing, defense, with 38% shooting from 3 than it would be a downgrade for New Orleans

I'm not a huge fan. Cavs should stay away.

Unless he's planning on a teardown and rebuild, this makes zero sense.

Not surprised - all the Celtics moves clearly point towards opening up a max FA spot for next offseason. I love Smart but unfortunately the only way to do it would be to let him walk

I kind of doubt he gets traded this offseason though given how thin the PG depth is. But who knows, maybe Brad gets two firsts and makes a move and then fills the PG depth with a 1-yr contract

S&T for Schroder? We could use a 3&D PG.

"[Danny Ainge] valued him like an All-Star though—he is not.”

Sounds about right.

Pretty sure Danny valued ME as an All-Star at some point.

Smart is overrated trash, so I understand why.

Edit; yea Schroeder seems about right.

Maybe the D part.

I just looked his stats up. For some reason I thought he had a respectable 3 shot.
