I really don't understand why we drafted 5 players. We need veterans.

Otto Porter, Bryn Forbes are the first two names were considered “frontrunners” for on cheap deals. Then, we have to retain Blake/Jeff.

Nerlans Noel is also a possibly but might be unlikely with Day’Ron Sharpe now…although, it sounds like Sharpe has 3 point range now.

it really depends on the team he goes to...

if he goes to someone like OKC, who has the cap room to give him 20-25 million, then there is no difference

if he wants to go to like the clippers, who are over the cap. he needs us in a sign and trade to get a big contract from them

It is probably a gentleman's agreement between the Nets and Dinwiddie that we will help him if he goes to a team over the cap with a sign and trade and he will help us by waiting for us to agree on draft compensation to deal him to a team under the cap so we get a TPE instead of losing him for nothing

Thank you!

I'm good with it, Otto is no sure bet but he's a great buy-low reclamation project. If he booms, he's an awesome pickup on a (hopefully) minimum contract. If he busts, we could probably hand those minutes to a younger player later in the season.

I actually feel the same way about Oladipo. Maybe he stays in Miami, but I would float a prove-it contract his direction. We can afford to give him time to recover at the start of the season, and he'd be ridiculous depth if he could ever regain form. If nothing else, he's a very good defender and playmaker for the 2nd unit.

We should prioritize resigning Jeff Green. He was so good for us and a perfect fit.

Green can be signed i think to a slight raise.

We have to hope Blake takes the vet min again since he's getting paid out the ass by Detroit

I actually prefer the Nets to lock up Porter for multiple years (Maybe 3yr/12m). It takes time for players to round back into form after severe foot injuries. (Gordon Hayward was an example for this) Last season was probably the time OPJ needed to get familiar with his body again. The back problem he repeated had was most likely a result of compensating for his foot injury.

So even though on surface it's risky to give him a multiple year deal, but it can be a calculated risk. If it works out it can be a great bargain, and he would become a great asset if we choose to trade. Worse case scenario would be 4 mil dead cap, which may not affect our position much if at all. If we somehow needed that room or save tax dollars, we can always lose a second rounder to rid his contract. If you think about it, OPJ has far higher upside (or should I say far higher chance to realize his upside) than a random 2nd round pick.

I was anti porter, but now thats shamet is gone a huge priority is depth at shooting. right now its harris and tyler johnson and TJ cant be counted on to stay healthy.

so for the minimum, yeah give me porter

i dont think oladipo is realistic, i also think stars dont love him, he seems to be to big for his britches. might work with butler, less so here i think

Head scratcher for me...

Draft Cam Thomas with our top pick and put all our time/effort in Free agency on Mills. scoring sparkplug 6th man is like not in the top 5-10 for need on a team that has kyrie or harden running the show with the second unit and 1-2 of the big three on the floor at all times.

We need shot blockers
We need defenders
We need rebounders
We need enforcers
We need athletes/above the rim players
We need need wing catch and shoot floor spacers
We need 2-way role players
We need a PF on the roster besides durant
We need future draft stock

I love mills. if we get him ill be happy with it, cause he is an experienced winner. gives me a bad vibe like Nash. Like Marks is more worried about bringing in his friends then anything else

Not alot of talk about it, but i hope we bring tyler johnson back. solid player, good depth. good fit.

On the Dinwiddie front, if it is the Wizards, washington and dinwiddie need our help. Which is going to mean they need to take on Deandre Jordan, to offset the salary we bring in with either Kuzma or Harrell. the deal would have to look something like:

Dinwiddie (S&T 20M per year)
Deandre Jordan

for

Kuzma
17M TPE
2nd rounder

that deal adds a net of 3.5 million per year or so, the difference between DJ and Kuzma. its pricey with the tax, but nowhere near as pricey as just taking back kuzma or retaining dinwiddie.

given the market drying up, and us really having no way to keep dinwiddie, id say this is the most likely move.

Would it be possible to bring in a 3rd team in a potential S&T with Washington if the rumors that the Nets don't really want Kuzma or Harrell are true?

If we bring back TJ, Sign Mills, trade dinwiddie/dj for kuzma, and add porter on vet min, and let brown walk. it looks like this:

Harden | Carter | Tyler Johnson
Kyrie | Mills | Thomas
Harris | Porter | TLC
Durant | Kuzma | Alize
Griffin | Claxton | Sharpe

I wouldnt hate that. still a lacks athleticism/above the rim play and defensive toughness. short on rebounding, but better then the team we ended the season with. Adding reddick to that group above would go a long way too, but porter helps soften the shamet blow.

would feel better with an additional Dog on this team besides carter and alize. prefebly a bigger athlete too

it would be more like a 4th or 5th team, as a dinwiddie sign and trade for kuzma would techinically be part of the westbrook deal. but it is possible

Unfortunately Wizards can clear 18 million to sign Din outright and Knicks are also in pursuit. We will most likely lose him unless he’s bent on more money or doesn’t want to go to Knicks. Plus there is Toronto on the radar. I would also try really hard to get patty mills. He’s a great player that could add the depth we need. Losing Green was a let down. Loved uncle Jeff. Noel is going back to Knicks as well.
