The Cavs are better off viewing Love as dead money who is six months away from a buyout. Any outcome better than that is gravy, but they really shouldn't be relying on him to provide minutes at this point. If Mobley does blossom as a 4, Nance is on a very affordable backup deal. They'll still need a backup center. I think Hartenstein's Q.O. was $2M? I just don't know that giving up matching rights so we have the full MLE to offer to some of the names I'm hearing is a great plan.

Hartenstein is a fine traditional center. But, with Allen, Mobley, Nance Jr. maybe a back to the basket center is not what they wanted from a roster construction stand-point.

And sure, they could have extended the QO and had matching right; but if they have no intention of signing him, why limit his market? He played hard, the team did right by him, he now has his best chance to latch with his next team.

Let me put it succinctly:

a) We don't want to lose out on a free-agent just because we have $2M tied up that we didn't need to tie up ... it's hard enough convincing people to sign in Cleveland;

b) If it turns out there is no market for IH, we could bring him back with one of the other various exceptions;

c) Kabengele is already cheap and on the roster as a press-in-case-of-emergency backup;

d) It's possible Mobley just isn't ready to start at PF, and the Cavs decide that rather than force-feeding him minutes anyway as they've done in the past they will decide to give him minutes at backup C instead.

I'm not saying (d) is likely or anything, but the Cavs have done stupider things than deciding they need to continue to start Kevin Love and pray he plays well enough to convince someone to take him off our hands. Oh, wait, that's kind of their go to move.

Does it change your thought process to know that Non-bird rights allowed the Cavs to extend the QO without chewing up one cent of the MLE?

They can extend an offer of 120% to any player and up to the QO of a restricted free agent that is in the roster at the end of the season.

Soooo.... Doug McDermott is gone. TJ McConnell is gone (not like we needed him with Rubio). Is there anyone else we are linked to?

I heard/saw a lot of Joe Ingles/Bojan Bogdonovic from the Jazz. I say we go and get both of them lol

A 2nd unit of Rubio, Ingles, Bojan, Love and Hartenstein would be..........(dont say it)........experienced :lol:

Rarely is value found during a feeding frenzy. Some fill up, some get eaten, and some choke on a tire.

It seems like Kelly Oubre is still available... wonder if he'd take the MLE...

A guy like Torrey Craig signed in Indiana for 5m per year. That would have been a really nice piece for the Cavs to go after, but uhhhh I think they are still drinking champagne from the Allen signing.

Is THT still available? Kelly Oubre wouldn't be bad either or maybe Ingles. Not sure how to available those 3 are but that looks like the best 3 out there that could be had.

I truly think THT could thrive with a more prominent role but he doesbt fit the ' we need veterans' narrative. Reminds me a lot of what TJ Warren did when he joined the Pacers. I also think a second unit of Rubio, Ingles, Love and Nance would be fantastic.

I think the team that was dead last in made three points needs more three point shooters. Opposing teams can't just pass on a film session and decide to play zone against us.

wouldn't mind it at all for backup SG, but if we only have the MLE to play with, I would much prefer a wing with more size and experience. We already have one undersized SG I don't know if we need two.

The Cavs need Joe Ingles and a really good locker room veteran to play cheerleader like Javale last year. 2 more good locker room veterans away. 1 rotational player and 1 towel waiver.

Kevin Love's 2yrs remaining at $30m per season is the gift that keeps on giving to a guy that looks to get hurt and says I can't play because I'm not healthy and also won't get in playing shape.

Other teams are throwing around unreal sums of money like Halloween candy to players that are not worth it. At least the Cavs will have Allen & Mobley for about 5 years together to build a Championship Team. Free agency is often fools gold.

Yeah it seems weird how everybody is throwing around mega money and the Cavs, who suck and have 1/2 their roster in rookie deals are somehow broke.

We could afford 3 Max players with LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love + many veterans but just because we have Kevin Love sucking cap space we are tapped out?

The financials still dont line up for me. I understand the Cavs have 1 big bad contract, but where is all of this other money tied up at. Does Jarrett Allen's non contract combined with Love really screw the Cavs that hard?

Hoping for Danny Green, but he ends up back in Philly most likely.

I'd heard we were right up against it ... which implies we'd have to release our cap hold to use the MLE.

But as far as I know, we can do that instantly.

So who knows... we can only guess the Cavs motivation until they actually spend the cap space. If IH was a wing maybe someone would have sent us a 1st just to S&T him ....

Still some free agents worth considering. Not sure what Otto Porter can still do, but what he used to be would be a nice fit.

About $36M in Nance, Cedi, and Rubio. ~$20M for Allen. And those lottery pick rookie contracts add up. Just a little dead cap

Heard he was heavily linked to the Nets. I would pret to see if Oubre would take the MLE and try to regain his Suns form. Might be a gamble worth taking.
